Well, finally broke down this morning and went to get the state inspection done. I was dreading the possibility that, since it had been reflashed during EGR replacement, they wouldn't be able to check emissions via OBDII and I would have to make a trip to get the F31 recall done.
After I pulled up to the shop and got out, and told the gemt I was there to get the state inspection done, I started to give him a warning that he might have problems with his OBDII hookup due to the programming problems DC was having with these vehicles -
Me - "You might have some trouble hooking up your computer to check the emissions. On the '06 models and some of the '05's with diesels like this one, they've had trouble with the programming-"
Him (interrupting) - "Wait a second, this thing is a diesel?"
Me - "Sure is" (flipping back fuel flap to show him the green cap and "Diesel Fuel Only" label). "That's what the CRD badge on the back stands for, Common Rail Diesel".
Him (checking the Fuel Type on the registration and seeing the "D" printed there) - "Heck, if it's a diesel, I don't need to hook up the computer, all I need to do is the safety inspection for 9 bucks".
Me (doubtful) - "Are you sure? This IS an '05".
Him - "Yep, doesn't matter what year it is. NC state law, as long as it's a diesel, all I have to do is the safety inspection".
Hmmm, just might be worth keeping this beast after all.
