At about 7,700 miles I've noticed a rattle while at idle. It sounds like it's coming from top rear of the motor. It only rattles at idle. Does anyone else have this problem?

Bad news issue if it's what many are seeing. TC is on it's way out. Kind of funny, several visits back I asked to get TSB 18-009-06 done. The service writer listed this as the complaint on the work orders. I never said anything about a TC rattle, just asked for a software update. They definately flashed their cards that day. From that day forward, I was convinced that they know more about CRD issues than they admit.

Don't forget that ULSD will cause your engine to rattle some.

What did they change on November 3, 2005? I'm asking because this only applies to those built prior to that date.

I know what you are looking at concerning the dates involved. Don't believe anything was actually changed as of 11/3/05, except enhanced software and maybe built after the date where defective filters were used. There seem to be an opinion around the various forums that the '06's are somehow immune from the transmission problems. I believe time (and mileage) will show it's the same machinery with the same problems.

I had that TC rattle from nearly day one on my CRD. After the TC failed and was replaced it disappeared. Several thousand miles later, the metallic rattle is slowly starting to reappear, but only when the outside temperatures are in the high 90's. It seems to come and go.

Same here on my 03 CRD, it rattles when it idles, but if I turn the AC off it is gone, my 02 CRD dit the same.
Try it with the AC off, mind the settings in wich the AC actually turns off, it is on when on defrost for example.
Drove 20.000 Miles on my 02 and 51.000 Miles with my 03 without any problems as the engine is concerned.
