Does anyone know the part number for the correct OEM oil filter for the CRD? I just had my second oil change at the dealership today. I looked and a Mopar 2-4781452BB oil filter was installed. The original was white and the one installed at my first oil change was also white. This one is black. Is there a specific oil filter for the CRD or is it the same as the 3.7L. I remember reading a post a while back from someone who said the dealer did put on the incorrect filter but was told it wouldn't cause any problems.

Thanks.

Off of the box it came in:

05003558AA

I assume that is the part number.

It also states "Made in Italy".

The Mopar filter spec'ed for the CRD is different than the one spec'ed for the gasser. The gasser one is made cheaper. It is ok if the filter is the gasser one-- but do not try and go 12,000 miles on it. The cheaper gasoline engine oil filters are not designed to last that long. They will plug up much quicker. I would replace it at 3000. It may seem like a PITA if you have to change the oil sooner, but better that than a plugged filter rupturing and dumping crud all in your engine. Perhaps you could just catch the oil when you drain it, change the filter, and then put the oil back in adding a little new oil to make up for what was left in the filter.

In the future, I would not let them cheeze you like that by putting the wrong filter on-- gas filters do not have to last as long, or remove as much silt, as diesel filters do. Some manufacturers-- WIX/Napa, claim their filter is up to working on both applications-- and thus they list only one filter for both the CRD and the Libby. That is not the case with the Mopar filter.

Thanks for the replies. That's exactly what I wanted to know. Where do you get your Mopar CRD filters from?

Personally I wouldn't buy the Mopar filter, I put a NAPA on mine and it's working just fine (WIX). There are no differences in the filtering media used in a diesel vs gas filter from the same manufacturer. The fact is that are very few filter manufacturers in the US or the world for that matter and everyone buys their filter from one of them and have the external packaging/paint changed to suit there needs. Baldwin, WIX, Champion and a few others make all the filters in the US. The gasket ring, holes in the inside filter body inside the ring and the relief valve are all giveaways to who built a particular filter.

You only got it half right, the makers of the oil filters make each to the spec required by the retail seller and NAPA spec's are not the same as OEM. They could be better, but most often they are less. In other words two filters made by the same filter mfg can be made to different quality, spec's for filtering, canister strength, etc. What really blows my mind is that it can even be the Quality Control spec's that vary, and I have seen that first hand in small engine mfg plant that builds more engines then anyone in the world.

What I am saying here is that almost anytime you buy aftermarket parts for you vehicle, you are buying lesser quality then OEM with rare exception. I used to have a friend who worked at local Purolator plant in Dexter MO in management before they closed/moved the plant. That is where I learned some intyeresting info about oil & air filters, both OEM and aftermarket. Typical low cost oil filter will remove about 40% of particles in 8 to 10 micron range, while typical OEM oil filter will remove about 70/80% of particles in 8 to 10 micron range. Synthetic filters generally range in the 3 to 7 micron filtering range, but that does impact oil flow rates and if oil is not up to the extra stresses caused by the slow flow then you have made things worse.

My local dealer only charges about $10 for the OEM filter so I have been buying my filters there.
