Got a call from the wife today that she had just got on the highway and couldn't get up to 45mph. We have an 05 CRD we bought with 11K on it. Since, we have run about 2K on B80 or greater. Have heard that the fuel filter usually needs to be changed if one is going from previous driving on petro d to bio d, but as the filters are quite pricey, wanted to make sure it might not be something else.

Symptoms: running fine, then loss of power at highway speeds. Accelerating from a stop light takes about 5 seconds to get going. (Then she arrives for her hair appt., lets it set, and doesn't have any problems at lower speed driving on the way home)

Does this sound like a clogged fuel filter?

A second question -- if it is, is there any special procedure to taking one off - depressurizing or anything of that nature.

Many thanks gents.

Sounds like the tranny went into "limp mode". When it took 5 seconds to get going, was higher rpms to get up to speed or would the engine not get up on RPM's?

May have nothing to do with the fuel filter. You would have CEL if it were clogged. I would take in for warranty. I suspect they will reflash your computer. As for changing the filter search this forum somone has posted detailed instructions.

If the propblem went away after she shut it off and then restarted...it may be the same little gremlin that inhabits my CRD. Just goes into "limp home" for no apparent reason. Fortunetly not very often.

Thanks all.

After reading about the "limp mode" phenomena, this may describe the syptoms better. May take it in to the dealer, but need to clear the half tank of B90.

Incendentally, wasn't able to find the link to changing the fuel filter. Anyone know where that is?
