Can anyone provide tips/procedures on how to change the foglight bulbs on an '06 Liberty CRD? I'm thinking of getting some Nokya hyper yellow bulbs to use for increased visibility. Thanks in advance. |

This is the removal process, paraphrased from the 06 FSM CD. 1. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable. 2. Remove grille by releasing 4 clips on top edge of grille, and rocking it forward so it can be lifted off the locater tabs on the bottom of the grille. 3. Remove the screw that secures the lamp adjuster bracket to the grille reinforcement. (Note this is not the adjuster screw itself, it is the screw that attaches part that the adjuster screw is attached to, to the grille reinforcement). 4. Using a suitable wide, flat bladed tool, carefully pry the pivot pins on the sides of the lamp assembly out of their stanchions in the grille reinforcement. 5. Do not disconnect the wire harness connector from the lamp assembly. Grasp the socket on the back of the lamp and rotate it about 30 degrees counterclockwise to unlock it, then pull the socket and bulb straight out of the lamp. Reinstallation is basically the reverse of the above steps. The only part of reinstallation that sounds tricky is that they say to engage the pivot pin on one side of the lamp, then use a wide bladed tool to carefully pry between the opposite side of the lamp and the lamp seat, enough for theremaining pivot pin to snap into its position in its stanchion. Their drawings are not very good, so it's hard to visualize exactly what they are telling you to do. Hopefully when you are actually looking at it the instructions will be more clear. They also say to tighten the lamp adjuster bracket attachment screw to 30 inch pounds. Hope this helps. |

I would add that facing the truck, pop the lamp bracket from the left side of the lamps first when removing. This goes for both the right and left lamp. |

But tere is no real need to disconnect the battery, I didn't and there is no way to short the light out unless you do it on purpose. The lights are GREAT at night in the rain and fog. The white lines on the black top that dissappear in the rain are visiable with the Nokyas and I have them in Jeep and my Magnum. |

I just had mine changed by the dealer the other day. The model number for the bulbs in the '06 are "H10" DMV |

I agree that disconnecting the battery is probably not necessary. I just thought it was best to post what the manual said, and let others make that decision (about disconnecting the battery) for themselves.

| Post subject: | fog lamps |
Well after installing my Sylvania silverstar headlamp bulbs and liking them so well, I had to go out today and get the fog lamp bulbs to match. Printed out the section from my FSM like stated above, and carefully started out on this adventure. Got the grille off ok, scary but got it, then started on the driver side light assembly first. Wrestled with the tabs that secure the pivot pins in place for a minute, and it came out. Changed the bulb and started on the other side. Well that side went real smooth, swapped out the bulb and put the lamp assembly back in, headed back to the other side. Well when I positioned the housing back towards the pivot mounting tabs, I put the one in the tab, swung it around to the other hole and guess what?? I had broken off one of the tabs that hold the lamp housing. I was in a cold sweat right now,,, well after saying a few choice words....haha. So I figured I wasn't out anything now, so I grabbed some locktite glue and 200mph tape. Managed to glue it back together and taped the side of the tab to secure it while it dries. Seems solid, but I guess if it doesn't hold, I'll have to replace the whole grille reinforcement assembly, that should be $$$$$$,,,haha. Well sorry for the book, oh the lights work great. The bulb # for the '06 grille mounted lamps are also called 9145/H10. |

Where did you get silverstar 9145's? I see that they are made, but I can't find a retailer that sells them. |

I bought mine at Auto Zone. Wally's didn't have the 9145, everything but them. Good luck. http://www.autozone.com/home.htm |

Thanks everyone for your help. I did my changeout this weekend and everything went well. In addition to replacing my foglights with the Nokya hyper yellows , I also replaced my stock headlamps with Silverstars. Glad I got this thing done before the colder weather moves in and the snow starts flying. Thanks again. |

While we are on the subject of foglights, last winter there were a lot of reports of broken len's on '05/'06 Sports and Limiteds. Mine are still fine and I have not seen comments lately. Has it passed? I always wondered if it was heat related as the lamp housing on these models is smaller and they would seem to be less suceptible to rock damage based on size and location. I don't run mine on a lot. |
