Post subject:  Little orange engine light?

When I started the CRD tonight the little orange engine light stayed on. I can't determine that it is driving differently, other than it wouldn't shift into 5th @ 65mph. However it was cold and I seem to remember something about not shifting until it was up to temp? I'm 200+ miles from a Jeep dealer. Analysis? Suggestions?

Mine is on as well right now... I'd vote for hitting a code reader. My codes were tranny related...

Where do I find a code reader? What's the process?

Theoretically, any ODBII compliant code reader should be able to read the code from your computer by plugging into the jack inside your car beneath the steering wheel (in the lower right part of the panel leading down from the steel wheel). You can buy a code reader at any autoparts store. But since this a DC product and the last F31 flash screwed up the data link on the CRD's-- you might not be able to get your code read. The best thing to do is take it to Auto Zone or any autoparts store and they will read the code for you. (Most will.) You can then get the code read for free. If you want to get a code reader, then you can buy it with some confidence that it will work as intended.

Or you could read the code right off your odometer if you read your manual.

One of the earlier reflashes - can't remember which one - L.O.S.T. this feature for me and it no longer works. Thanks DC.

I've read multiple references in here about doing something with the key to turn the light off? Could someone give me specific directions? OR does that clear the code? Read the code then turn the light off?

That trick is not in my manual.

It's not in mine & couldn't make it work. No flashes but build date of March 16, 2006.

Post subject:  Dash CEL readout

Works fine on my '05 and I have all but the most recent reflash (18-023-06/F31). When you toggle the key, make sure you move it from "Off" through everthing except "start" on a very consistant "one-thousand-one, one-thousand-two, one-thousand-three" timing rythm, stopping in the "on" position. Then wait 2-3 seconds for the comupter to think and give you codes or "done." It might even alternate between the odometer reading and "done". I had problems getting this to work too until I got a feel for it.

I'll have to give it another try...I went a bit faster than that.

Started the car 6 times over a 24 hour period and the light went out. Read in the manual that this happens sometimes and not to worry about it unless the little orange engine is flashing..... I will mention it when I take it in for the creak-creak noise in the rear brakes. Gotta remember to remove the EHM!
