Having kept abreast of all the problems involving the transmission/torque converter, I had an interesting experience with mine today. If this was previously answered forgive me, but as I was leaving a convention before noon, I accelerated to get on the highway. I was not yet in OD due to construction going on, but I felt what can only be described as the shudder (between 50-55mph) that has been talked about endlessly. I switched OD off immediately before it could go into OD just to see how long this behavior was going to last. It went on for a good 20-30 seconds with OD off. How long have others experienced this behavior? I don't recollect seeing the timeframes, only that it shudders at around certain speeds or conditions. Previously, the only time I noticed this was when I would slow down and it was in OD, usually around the 62-65mph range. I would venture to say mine suffers from the same fate as anyone who is having tranny issues, except mine isn't violent, it's just very noticeable. Now that I have it in both areas, should I expect accelerated puking of the TC and pump? The problem is, other than telling my dealer about it, I am content to drive it around this way as there really isn't a fix from what I see here. I knew going in what I was in store for, so now that I have some symptoms, I have to deal with them much like you folks. I'd just want it in the record and bide my time while a solution is sought out. Having it sit in the dealership for a couple weeks isn't the answer. |

I haven't dealt with it enough personally to make a distinction between engine management and tcm. I would be inclined to say the problem stems from the tcm because what has changed on these transmissions? I recall other posts talking about how these transmissions are supposed to be bulletproof in other applications, so what gives in this case? I can see where the bean counters could have cheapened the hardware that went into the transmissions, but the internal passages *should* be unchanged for the most part; they already have the casings, what revision can be made to cheapen that? Computer logic (or lack thereof in this case) would seem the biggest culprit. I'll have to do more research on what the transgo kit includes; aside from changing line pressures with different springs, if the transmission is computer controlled, it wouldn't seem that the shift kit would have that much of an impact as it would in a non computer controlled transmission, which is what I am accustomed to. Somewhere there has to be a transmission outfit that will be able to properly diagnose and address these issues in spite of DC. |

Our tranny has a weak pump that has been "improved" for 07. Also replacements of the torque converter usually have been getting the new pump also. But by then the tranny and cooler are both trashed and a complete tranny and a cooler flush seems to be needed. It's reported the "bullit proof" tranny has circulation problems and the new pump is supposed to help that. Another problem is both Chrysler transmission controller and Bosch engine controlers want to be master on the same bus. Trying to make this work is what suspected of causing the F31 recall situation. This all reeks of "PPE" on Chrysler's part in my mind |

Today I filled up and have some odd noises coming from the front now. I'm not sure if it is transmission related or something with the fuel system. I don't know if my level is up to snuff, when I got home and checked it in park, it appears to be under the second hole on the dipstick for the level when checking the fluid hot. For all I know I could already be going down the path of fried internals. I did some checking on the transgo kit last night. I think I'll be trying that sooner than later. I still don't understand if this bulletproof transmission had no pump issues before, what was changed to make it an issue now. Maybe quality control is lacking, with the non calibrated dipsticks and the ongoing guess as to what proper levels are supposed to be. The honeymoon is over. |

Is it shifting funny? You should also note that the engine clatter will change some depending on the fuel you purchase. If you can get some, try a little biodiesel in the mix and see if it quiets the rattle. You will quickly know if it's fuel related. |

I don't think it's fuel related; I've got a Shell station here that has ULSD that I've been filling up on. The noise sounded like a metallic rubbing/grinding on acceleration from a stand still. Fast forward to tonight. I'm out for my anniversary and it's been raining, so I think tonight will be a good night to play with the full time 4wd. I've got it engaged and we are driving about 2 miles when I turn a corner and there is a loud BANG. I don't know if this is typical behavior when engaging the 4wd system, but my wife certainly took notice. I disengage, drive a little ways and engage again. I turn into the driveway at my mom's house, but decided to park on the street because I didn't want to drip oil on her driveway from the EHM. As I back out into the street another BANG, but not as pronounced as the initial bang. Now on the way home I go to a local parking lot and I engage and disengage the 4wd. I feel binding after I disengage from full time, enough that driving forward a short ways and then turning the wheel either way as far as it goes without accelerating causes the Jeep to actually stop moving. I've tried disengaging and backing up before doing any turning, forward without any turning, etc. but I don't think my system is working correctly. Anyone else have pronounced banging or binding issues? |

I have driven mine with the transfer case engaged in Full time on wet and dry roads with no banging or any sounds at all. The only thing I have ever noticed when it is engaged is a very slight vibration in the drive train,, basically letting me know that it is doing it's job. Sounds like you have a problem with the transfer case/drive line somewhere.......mine never makes a noise or causes any probblems engaging, driving or dis-engaging the 4WD,,,,, even in 4low. |

I forgot to mention, I briefly saw the light for transmission temp flash on while turning a corner last night too. I think I have issues I need to address...at least it didn't wait until say December when it is subzero outside. |
