Does anybody notice a noise (kind of a whine) coming from their ring and pinion? I always thought it was the turbo whining at highway speed but when my uncle rode with me this past weekend he notice it and said he thought that was what it was. It whines at highway speed when on the pedal. Take your foot off and it goes away....any ideas or experiences? Thanks, |

I have had tires do that on some pavements, but if it sounds like it is at rear of the vehicle only then that isn't the problem.

My 2003 Gasser Liberty did it all the time, chalk it up to some do , some don't, not much to worry about, my CRD does not, running 75-90 Severe Gear, don't know if that make any difference or not. |

I took the Jeep to the dealer today to have them test drive it, it turns out they think it's a pinion bearing. It goes in next Tuesday for a couple of days for repair. |

I don't know it it's relevant, but my '05 GC did the same thing and they had to replace the rear diff bearings. SM stated that the preloads were incorrectly set. |

My 95 GC used to do that, my 99 GC did that and my moms 06 Gas KJ does it. Annoying as hell. |

You know what, I never (need to) drive my car during the working week, but yesterday I decided to drive it just for the hell of it. I put back on my stock as new, Wrangler 235/65/17 S4 factory tires, and noticed for the 1st time, the EXACT same noise & symptoms you describe. I never noticed it before as the combination of a CRD engine & MTR tyres supress most noises I guess, but yeah, yesterday I really noticed it. Thing that worries me is that I just had an ARB locker put in the rear I'll report my findings on this thread when I get it redone next week. |

That noise is usually wheel bearing noise or pinion bearing noise...whinning is not good unless she is cute. |

Both whinning and cute get worse with time. |
