Pardon me while I vent.

I took my Jeep in for 3 recalls. F21, F23 and F31. Also added 5 things to look at
1. Noise from CVs when accelerating in full time 4WD
2. Wind noise around windshield
3. Poor fuel economy, gave them a spreadsheet showing 20MPG average for the last 10 months. 16MPG low a few tanks 23MPG high.
4. Excessive oil in intercooler hoses and seeping out around flow control valve
5. Parking brake needs adjustment

The answer to everything except the wind noise was "Could not duplicate"

The tech commented that no noise from the front end in 4WD other than a rattle at shut down but all diesels do that (exact words). WTF does a rattle at shut down have to do CV noise when accelerating? Others tell me that the noise is normal for the Select-Trac so I'm not too worried. I did get under the car and the driver's side inner CV is noticeably looser than the passenger side. It would be nice if the tech could actually check the parts involved rather than comment that rattle at shut down is normal for a diesel?????

The tech said that 20 MPG is perfectly normal and right where it should be (maybe for a gas motor but not for the CRD). Never mind the huge cloud of smoke the thing puts out all the time. Don't worry about the thick coating of soot in the tailpipe. It's so thick I can scrape it off in a nice little pile. My 12 year old Suburban has 99K miles on it and, at most, I can dirty my finger rubbing the tailpipe. I'm no expert but my brother IS a trained diesel mechanic. While following me a few weeks ago, he said it was belching way too much smoke. Lots of smoke, poor millage, heavy soot in the tail pipe- it doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine that something isn't right. Maybe a nice email to the EPA will get them off their butts on this one.

Expected the response about oil in the intercooler. Just wanted it on record in case the engine runs away due to unmetered fuel.

I have to yank the parking brake way too hard to get it to hold. It hits a stop before it engages. 3rd time I've complained about it. I'll just adjust it myself.

They had the Jeep for three days and the wind noise specialist never got around to fixing it. I have to take it back. I think I will look for a different dealer instead.

FYI: That much more oil than you will get through the factory CCV. Starting looking for oil passing the turbo seals. It's probably the reason for the heavy soot.

Used less than a half a qt of oil in 6000 miles. Don't think it is that.

Oil recoverd in my Provent has never been more than @ 1/2 cup over 6K miles. Only time I saw anthing more was when I had a wet air filter, then was getting it in quantity through both the turbo seals and CCV discharge. It literally sucked the accumulated crud out of the CCV hose and deposited it in a wad of goo in the top of the Provent.
