Hopefully we can make this a sticky, but I know many of us were stuck with what the dealer had on the lot in terms of options for our CRDs. One of the big things I bought the CRD for is the ability to tow with gobs of torque the CRD offers. The only problem is that my basic limited didn't come with the factory towing package. Questions: 1) What are the basic items that need to be purchased to equip the CRD for towing up to the 5,000 lbs capacity? 2) What are some optional items that are recommended (e.g. upgraded brake parts, trans/oil coolers, etc.)? 3) On vehicles that didn't come factory equipped with tow package, is the wiring for a trailer brake system already present? Thanks in advance for your replies. |

I'm thinking this thread should be made sticky when a clueful CRD master answers it. I'd like to know the "towing for Dummies" secrets, too. My owners manual isn't especially helpful. |

I've been towing for almost 1 1/2 years, you need a hitch, the rear wiring harness for the plug you need and a trailer brake module. the wire for the brakes on the trailer brake module is already there, it's a blue wire in the driver's side kick panel with a tag on it. The rest of the rig is ready to go. Wire in the module, put on the hitch, and wire in the trailer plug and your done. |

I tow a Jayco 17' travel trailer. I use a Reese weight distributing hitch, Hayes Energizer III brake controller, factory tow package. |
