I had both recalls done today (ball joints & flash). Based on the comments here I expected to really feel some difference in the jeep after the service. I have to say that the whole deal only took about 90 mins and that the Jeep drives exactly the same as before. The shift points are the same and the steering is just as tight (or loose) as it was before the service. Maybe its just me not being "sensitive" enough (I heard that from old girl friends all the time) but I can't find any difference. The recalls seem like a non-event. |

And that's a good thing right? You just changed the lower ball joints (yours must have been still good)and configured the computer so aftermarket scanners could be used to troubleshoot the rig. |

I agree, better to not notice any change than to have the same or different problems after having recalls done. |

Maybe they just parked it in the shop for 90 min and just brought it back out to you. |

Nah...they sprayed some WD40 on the ball joints to make them look new again...Like the other post said, you probably won't notice any difference if nothing was "wrong" to begin with. Does anyone know if the new ball joints are any different? |

There was another thread on here where someone posted pics of what the new LBJs looked like compared to the old. |

Actually, the warranty work time that DCX pays the dealership for the techs work is 1.1 hours. However, this recall is gravy for padding a techs timesheet if they are short on time. For example, my LBJ's took 15 minutes to replace but the tech charged the full 1.1 hours and came out and thanked me for coming in that day to pad out his hours. I think some shops are keen to this and then the tech plays a game where the vehicle stays in the service bay to give the appearance of using up the whole 1.1 hours of warranty time even though the work only took 15 minutes. |

If I had to guess, I would say that the "ball joint" part of the fix took less than 30 mins as when I went to get coffee I saw my car down from the lift and hooked up to the programmer unit at about that time. Interestingly enough (to me at least) the mechanic stood around and drank coffee (bourbon?) the whole time it was hooked up to the programmer and would occasionally walk over and check some reading. After about 45 mins or so, he drove it out of the shop, went about 5 min down the road (for test drive?) and dropped keys off at desk. |
