Post subject:  transmission fix made things worse?

i had the transmission fix done on my 2006 about a month ago. since that time my mileage has dropped about 2mpg on average and it seems like the transmission is slipping way more than it used to and downshifting when it didn't used to. has anyone else faced this or does anyone else have any ideas?
my liberty is completely stock in every other way and is just over 10,000 miles. thanks for any help.

Are you talking about the F31 recall, or the latest TSB? I had the ECM portion of the TSB done and I had the F31 recall done and mine is shifting better but still isn't perfect. The shudder and harsh 35mph shift are both gone. For a couple of weeks it felt like the jeep didn't have as much power, but I think it was just "learning" after the computer flashes. My last hand calculated milage was great at just over 25mpg. This is with about 60/40 hwy/city driving. I only have 3600 miles on mine ATM.

I have 19K on my 2006 and had the F31 and the ball joints done on Wednesday. Mine seems to shift a little better but on a 200 mile trip yeaterday I think my mileage is about 2 mpg lower than I would have expected before the flash. The first day out it seemed to not know what to do between 60>65 MPH like it used to. After TC lock at about 64 MPH it was rough for a while. Didn't notice it yesterday on the longer drive though.

I was going to try to skip the flashes on my 06 because I am fairly happy with it but at 22000 miles my check engine light came on so I am going to have to take it in next week. I wonder if I have any say as to what flashes they do?

Yes, Yes, Yes. Went in for another egr valve replacment this past summer - without me asking, they flashed it. Transmission stays running in higher rpm lmuch onger than it used to, downshifts at the drop of a hat and mileage dropped 2 - 3 mpg. Hate how it shifts since then. It used to shift into 5th easily - it can't be done now until I reach 55 or more and when it does, it shifts into 5th very slowly, you can watch the tachometer dropping very slowly into gear. It used to shift into 5th very fast. Now it feels likes its slipping most of the time until I reach cruise speed. It's a rubber band stretching kind of feel from the tranny.

No ideas how to correct. Software controls everything on this transmission. So far, they have not been able to get it right - I still have the jerking at 55-65 after WOT.

this really kinda blows. i was hoping there was something that the dealership messed up that left me in this sad state of affairs. i know all that was done was the reflash, but the way the tranny hunts for gears now is horrible. the tranny actually downshifted this evening on the way home at 65 for no reason at all and then right back up to 5th 2 seconds later. whatever happened with that reflash, something is horribly wrong and i hope chrysler is doing something about it.

Ranger1, I took mine in earlier this week for the 2nd EGR in less than 12,000 miles and they must have done the flash as well because I'm noticing the exact same things regarding the RPM's and shifting! The service manager didn't mention anything about the flash, and it doesn't show up on my invoice. What's the code for this flash so I can check under the hood to see if it was done?

When they do a software change they are supposed to place a sticker under the hood showing the details (it's a legal requirement). You can get a good look at the sticker info if you go to alldata and download the latest TSB 18-023-06. This sticker should be on the underside of the hood or possibly on the top of radiator core support. Look for @ 2X3 inch white sticker, with a grid/boxes, writing might say 18-023-06 or F31.

Unfortuately this system is a little vague because when you visit the dealer, they will plug your Jeep into DC's system. DC's computer will read your computer's software version and recommend whatever updates that are available regardless of what may be listed on a TSB. Some of their warranty procedures (like EGR replacement) calls for them to plug-in and check for updates. You really don't get a choice.

That's how its supposed to be done. However, for the 8 or so flashes I've had done. the only one that ever put a sticker label was the last - and it does not have a number matching any TSB. I posted it in another thread a while back. On the paperwork, it just said, "flashed computer." No numbers of any kind.
