| Post subject: | Higher than usual RPM's after EGR replacement. |
I recently had my second EGR valve replaced in under 12,000 miles, and ever since then, my RPM's are quite a bit higher than they use to be. This morning, under normal excelleration, they shot up to 2,200 + almost instantaneously, when previously it never shot up past 1,800. And the transmission has started "hunting" for gears and dropping out of gear at around 55 mph, as well. What's the deal here? Is the transmisson out of whack? Did they do a computer flash or something that might be causing this behavior? Nothing on my work order indicated that they flashed the computer. I haven't filled up since the replacement, so I don't know if the MPG's are suffering. I have been averaging between 17 to 18 MPG's with mostly stop and go driving. We're getting ready to take a 2,000 mile trip over the Thanksgiving holiday and I don't want to get standed! |

I would definitely take it to the dealer and get a tech to take a drive with you if you think you can replicate the problem. |

Yep, take it back. Don't head out on a road trip with a hunting tranny. |

If they did the flash they should have mentioned it on the work order and there should also be a sticker when you open your hood that indicates it has been flashed. Has your Jeep had the latest TSB (18-023-06)? If not, that may be something to try before you set out on your trip. Mine shifted a world better after getting the TSB. |

I'm thinking they either did a TSB or they reset your computer and it has to learn your driving habits all over again. If your going on a trip, I would get it checked first. Nothing like waiting for a tow 1000 miles from home to ruin a trip. |

Where are they supposed to put these stickers? I know I've had at least two TSBs done on it. I must be blind or blond.

They are supposed to put them on the metal in front of your fan shroud where the various other warnings are. But again, they should also have put this on the work order if they did it. The latest TSB is a "perform if the vehicle is in for service". Although most of them will not do it unless you ask for it specifically...or if you complain of the symptoms. |

They put my stickers on the underside of the hood near the latch |

That sounds exactly like the most recent reflash, to me... I bet the torque converter used to lock up at 58mph, and now doesn't lock until 62? |

I checked under the hood and didn't see any sticker indicating that they flashed the computer while previously in for the EGR replacement. Back to the shop I go! Thanks for all of your advice, and I'll keep you posted. |

When they reflashed mine, they "forgot" the sticker, as well. Just FYI... |

Typical BS from the service department................"couldn't recreate the symptoms." Three different people from the service department took it for test drives, and they all said it was running perfectly. They hooked it up to their computer, and all variables fell within their parameters. They said (in a round about way) that my driving style is probably the reason for the higher RPM's. Geeze, you'd think I had a lead foot or something! (Now I see why this dealership lost its 5-Stars.) |

(Now I see why this dealership L.O.S.T. its 5-Stars.) That really sucks, but the main reason for this is that they don't get decent money for warranty work. In their philosophy, if the car isn't broken, move it out until it does break. Sucks, but they are all about making money so they could care less about spending time to try and diagnose an "advanced" problem. Unfortunate for you my frined is that you will have to wait until something breaks to get any kind of service from them. Even then, you don't really get much. |
