Has anyone looked into converting your CRD into a manual tranny CRD? They make them for the european market so I am guessing that the parts are not impossible to get. If I could change only one thing on my CRD it would be, hands down, the transmission.

You will need some very deep pockets to do that switch. Lots of electronics involved amoung other things.

The little torque monster would be fabulous with a manual behind it, no doubt.

If you wanted to convert your KJ to the MTX version, you would need...

-Dual-mass flywheel with clutch/pressure plate
-NVG370 six-speed transmission
-KJ MTX pedal assembly, clutch hydraulics, etc...
-EDC16 engine controller from European KJ MTX
-A very nice dealer that will re-program your injector and VIN into the new controller

With that said, the BUX (European models) don't use a throttle valve for EGR flow control so the hardware on the engine is slightly different. But...it is possible to pull it off if you have enough money...

I'll be sure to do this to my CRD once I win the lottery and with my luck it won't be happening anytime soon. I may ask my dealer about it today when I have the ball joint recall done, I'll let ya know if I get laughed out of the shop.

Again, this is a case where it be easier to sell yours, import a European, and get it to pass inspection in your state? Gotta be cheaper.

I don't think it would be all that hard to get the inspection in Maryland, they don't do emissions on diesels. At least not that I know of, but this might change with the new EPA regs.

Unless their is a governmental exemption on the vehicle (i.e. what Chrysler has when it brings vehicles in/out of the country), it will have to pass emissions when it comes through customs unless you have a sneaky way of bypassing those people...

I doubt the dealer would even think about touching a conversion like that. Not worth it my friend. I mean heck...if you win the lottery, why not just move to Europe and buy one over there...and live like a king :)
