About 4 months ago I was pulling out onto a main road and my jeep started to misfire with no power. Turned it off for 30 seconds and it went away. No codes and it's been fine since... till tonight.

Was crusing at about 35mph and needed to merge onto another road so I gave it some gas. The vehicle started to shake in a way that made me thing the torque converter just took a dump, but it settled out with a severe lack of power, pedal to the floor it was able to get up to about 40mph. I took the next exit and as I came to a stop the dreaded shake/misfire was there, turned it off for 30 seconds and again, it started right up as if all was good. Drove around somemore with no problems. No engine lights either.

Time to take it in and see what the stealership says. Impossible to reproduce, but luckily someone here got the shakes on video so hopefully I can show them that.

Anything else I should take a look for as I imagine it will be a couple days before I actually get it in.

Could be one of a few things...

Back over the summer we had a CRD KJ (05MY) that was the Popular Mechanics Long-Term Test Car that had the similar problem. There was an issue with the wiring harness at the ECU end...wiggled the wires and it was fine. Also an issue with the ECU itself...installed a new one and the problem never returned.

With that said, there could also be an issue with air getting into the fuel system and/or the rail pressure sensor. If you take it to the dealer, ask them to use the StarScan to monitor injected fuel quantity and rail pressure during the misfire condition (if you can get them to reproduce it). If you can validate that all the hose clamps are tight and there are no cracks in the rubber lines, it could be a rail issue. The rail and sensor are non-servicable, so if the sensor is bad the entire rail gets replaced. Also ask them to check for stored codes and see if they can supply the subfault data for any codes that are stored. That'll help to track down the root cause of the issue.

Good luck!
