Post subject:  Considering Purchase??

Hi: I am considering the purchase of a CRD liberty. I have a jetta and already turned the EGR down with software to minimum. Should I buy? I do not trust the "new" diesels. Every "improvement" has lowered efficiency. So even though it is new the 07 diesels will be a nightmare. If I buy am I buying a Lemon. I understand that I see more warts than good skin. I am on the turbodieselregister for my trucks.

If you are already a diesel head... then go ahead and buy it. Just realize that you need a good dealer for when the service issues arise. I would also imagine the CRD's are getting hard to find. Some CRD's do have problems. I am sure they can be fixed.. but the dealer and Chrysler are the weak link. The motor is worth it, though. It is a blast to drive offroad and on the highway. All the problems so far are the emissions and tranny. Both are fixable. While the tranny bugs are still shaking out, turning down the EGR and using ULSD should solve most of the problems.

Good Luck.

Ditto what Pablo said.

From your signature line and username it is obvious you have the diesel bug. Dont get it for fuel mileage, although it is good in my opinion, it will not compare to your jetta, if you want to do some offroading get decent fuel mileage and have a unique vehicle, then get one. Good luck finding a new one though, I would say they are getting rare.

Isn't NY a CARB state? He wouldn't be able to get a brand new CRD liberty registered. It would have to be a used one, and it would have to have been owned/registered for 6 months and the ODO must read at least 7,500 miles.

Now if he had a home in PA, or somewhere else, he would just register it there until it meets the criteria.

Dude, I just bought my CRD and I bought an actual lemon that has been reworked by Jeep. It runs great and is huge fun to drive! No problems yet. If it has problems, they will get fixed. That's what the warranty is for! I don't know what I would have bought if the CRD Libby wasn't out there...there's nothing like it!

Best of luck with your decision!

later,
Nick

Being a "diesel head" myself I can tell you the intake will still clog on your tdi even with the egr turned down  Also there's no vag-com for the crd available to the public at a reasonable price. If you know of one let us know. CRD's are fun to drive and I got my 06 for the reasons you mentioned.
