K&N are a waste of money for the turbo diesel and they will pass about several 100 times the amount of dirt in to the engine over the stock OEM filter. This is a fact supported by oil sample testing and dyno runs.
And second I would like to see some picture of installed Gauge Pods in your Liberty. Can't help with the gage pods sorry. |

K&N has always been junk and was deligated to a deserved also ran status till that dumb street rod movie. Than all the sudden they are supposed to be so great. Beware as noted above. Even on the gas Libs they have shown no real hp gains and lots of dirt injested inside the engines. |

And second I would like to see some picture of installed Gauge Pods in your Liberty. A while back I had a pre-lemon law meeting with a product rep from DC. Was told specifically that a K & N air filter was a bad move on the CRD. The combination of a sticky, oily charged-air cooled intake and the amount of dirt this filter lets through is not a good combination. |

How does your oil analysis look with the K + N? Most people see excess silica (dirt) with a K + N. BTW 236k is not at all unusual on the VW motors from what I've heard. Most will make that with minimal care. |

K&N's are ok for racing purposes on road courses in engines that are not going to be run 100,000 miles. For normal driving conditions they allow way too much dust/dirt thru to the intake system and on to the moving parts. It is not a problem with the media they use...the problem is the density (or lack of) of the media they use. They get more "air" thru with less reisitance...but it is dirtier air. Good old paper will filter more garbage out...proven may times over. What we need is a snorkel grabbing cleaner air from above the street/trail level...and a bigger airbox with a larger filter would be nice. |

Also your old VW diesel pickup doesn't have the control systems we're using. Hence the oily old K&N filter can't hurt the senders. |

I use Green Performance Air Filter. Filters down to 5 microns. http://www.greenfilterusa.com/images/page%201-5.pdf |

Your 22 yr old, non-turbo, non-charged air cooled VW is an entirely different beast. The DC rep didn't say K&N's were junk, said they pass too much dirt which mixes with oil vapor from the CCV and what gets past the turbo seals and ends up lodged in the intercooler. Also said it's an automatic warranty void if they catch it. I don't care for the paper filters either, running a foam True-flow in mine. |

How is the true flow working out so far? |

Have @ 6K on it and working fine. Kept one of the used paper filters so I took it out before the last dealer service visit as to have a day to clean it before getting the Jeep back. As usual a day turned into a week (it's a CRD-thing). Followed the cleaning instructions and was careful to rinse it into a clean tub so I could see what it collected. The quantity of dirt it caught was amazing, had mud in the tray. The downside was it took a day to dry it out enough to re-oil and reuse. Maybe a wet vac would help next time. |

I plan on runnning a true flow in mine too as soon as the time comes to replace the stock one. |

Quote: MY VW DIESEL PICKUP HAS 236554 MILES ON IT AND THE SHORT BLOCK HAS NOT BEEN APART YET.
That'd be impressive if you add another digit. A neglected gasoline engine ought to last at least that long. My mistreated '92 Ford Explorer has over 290,000 on it and is running pretty. |

It has a moderate power level that seems to help with studder when the Jeep is warmed up. When the Jeep is not warmed up it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. But it does give an amazing amout of power off the line. The trailjammer is made by edge products if you want to get one. I think they just sell it through distributeurs though. |

I've been checking them out, found a place that has them for $380, just hate to spend that kind of money this close to christmas. I'm quite sure the wife wouldn't like getting that under the tree |

I'm quite sure the wife wouldn't like getting that under the tree Well I can understand that! Good luck finding what your looking for. Just for your benefit Don't get a sp diesel performance module for the Liberty. I tried one from a friend and it didn't do hardly anything and it cost the same as the Trailjammer. |
