Hello all, Been reading this forum for quite some time and must admit this has got to be the most knowledgeable automotive forum I have seen (light years ahead of all the dumb kids arguing on my old Mazda forum). Kudos to all the intelligent people here! Anyways, I am the proud owner of a 2005 Light Khaki CRD that I drove over 500 miles to pick up. Since August my CRD has been nothing but a joy to drive and nothing pleases me more than covering those snooty hybrid drivers with a nice cloud of diesel smoke. As a first time diesel owner I have a few concerns regarding my CRD. So far at 10,000 miles I've had no issues, until it started getting cooler down here in the Florida panhandle. My problem is, my CRD loves to stall at the first couple of stoplights on my way to work after a night of sitting outside. She runs great right until I come to a complete stop (and only a complete stop) where she starts sputtering (RPM fluctuating) then the engine dies. I am able to start her right back up with no problems, no CEL's, limp mode or anything. Coming home from work I rarely have any issues, sans some RPM fluctuations when I hit a red light. My dealer can't replicate it, has already done the tranny filter TSB and can't seem to find anything wrong. So what seems to be the problem? My dealer and I have pretty much ruled out bad fuel, air in the lines, and transmission fluid levels. Coming from a rotary engine I always make sure that the engine is good and warm before I drive off in the morning. 'Gasp', could this be a bad torque converter? Any input would be appreciated. Another thing is where the hell can I find a CRD owners manual? Five Jeep dealerships and six months of waiting on backorder from DC have produced zero results. Lastly for those who have provents, where did you buy them from? I can't find one specific to the CRD. Thanks in advancel! -David (from Michigan who is stuck in Florida.) |

Did you buy your CRD in Birmingham, AL? |

Welcome, As for the sputtering and dying thing that has happened to me twice. Not in the moning, but leaving the studio after I was there for about 12 hours. I would start up the CRD and drive down the parking lot to pull out in to traffic and Dead! In 8,000 miles it has only happened twice. I haven't even asked the dealer because I am sure they have no answer. Maybe if it happens again. If you find an owners manual let me know. I have been waiting on one for monthes. And DCX just keeps blowing me off when I ask when they will be in. I am ready to pay someone to let me borrow theirs for a weekend. I just want to read it once. I can't wait for DC to give me trouble about warranty because I didn't follow the maintenance schedule. It would sure be nice if I had an owners manual. This is the only thing I hate about my CRD. |

It's not stalling because it's cold. I suspect you have a air leak causing the fuel to drain back into the tank and air getting in. Check the banjo bolts on the filter mount. Also check the all hose clamps including the one on the pressure pump. It's easiest to get from the top after removing the charged air hos by the battery. Also could be a partially clogged filter. To test before checking pump the primer pump till it getts firm. It's located on top of the fuel filter mount. You'll not find a CRD provent. You get one and mount and plumb it yourself. Here's one link http://www.cfpfilters.com/shopsite_sc/s ... nt200.html You can get a electronic copy on ebay of the service manual. It's about $64 to your door. I have one and it's legit but I think it's intended purpose is for trade schools. It's in pdf format and is fully searchable. If the link does not work it's item 130049585697 Also yours could be hiding in it's special spot on a shelf above the glove box http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-Lib ... enameZWDVW |

MrMopar64 explained an idle problem something like you're describing but it was with the 2.5L. Maybe its something similar. Might just need a flash http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=140177&highlight=idle#140177 As for your manuals, their not just "hidden" in the glovebox compartment, are they? I've run into a few KJ owners who didn't see them in the little slot up top and also seen a few posts here where guys didn't find them for a year or so. |

I didn't find mine for a month after I went in and told salesman I didn't get one. He open the glove box and pulled it right out of the top slot in the glove box. |

Trust me I have looked in the special spot. The dealer said they would pay for my manual since I didn't have one. The problem is DCX has been back ordered since the day I bought my CRD. Like I said I am ready to pay someone to FedEx me theirs for the weekend. It is driving me up the wall that I havn't been able to read the manual cover to cover. |

Welcome aboard Dude! We all would thank you for the compliments, but we came here for the same reason, so you're due as much credit as the rest of us. I will, however, send out a big THANKS to the moderators and creator of this site for not putting up with the junk that runs other forums. The tranny thing you're talking about started happening to me after 7k miles on my beloved little rumbling beast. If I got in the truck and shifted into D without letting it warm up some, it'd act like I was only pushing the throttle about half of what I was. Then came the terrifying evening when I left church one evening. It was a bit chilly that night, and we'd been there for a while. I let it warm up a tad, then put 'er in D and drove sedately to the traffic light (about 100 yards from where I was parked). I pressed the brakes to come to a stop for the red light and it seemed to require a little bit more effort that normal. So I pressed some more and she came to a shuddering stop...then lurched like she was trying to go into the intersection. I put the brake pedal to the floor and stopped her...and she stalled. The best way I can describe the lurch/stall is to say, it was like I dumped the clutch in a manual and she lurched to a stop. But the only reason she stopped was because I was holding the brake. I took it to the dealer the next day and told them what was going on (including the slow engagement after cold start). They kept it overnight and tested it in the morning. When they replicated it, they did the Trans filter job on it and I've never had a problem since. Is your truck having the "slow to engage" problem too? Oh, and sorry about your manual man. I waited an extra hour to get my manual when I bought the truck. I wasn't about to step foot out of that place before I had that thing. I'm sure someone local to you could let you borrow their's for a day. |

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. Sigh I have checked the hidden compartment in the glove box, no dice. Joe R, Thanks for the tip and link. I have a feeling you may be right. I was able to capture the stalling on video so now I can show my dealer what's really happening later this week. Endurance, I didn't buy her in Alabama, but in Macomb, Mississippi. Funny story, before I had bought her I had called at least 10 places selling a CRD, 8 out of 10 of those places told me they had just sold their CRD's and that they were in huge demand. I guess people get jumpy when diesel prices are cheaper than gasoline. Too bad thats not the case now. Will report later this week when the dealer see's the video proof. |

Re your Manual, The one I recieved with my 06 CRD stated a ADDITIONAL 36K ENGINE WARRANTY starting after THE ORIGINAL 36K WARRANTY expired. Several others has it listed also. DC denies the second "engine" warranty and one member, dzl_lou, has gotten his state attorney general involved and DC has so far has not responded. That maybe why you can't get one and it was missing when you got the jeep. Like maybe they pulled them from all remaining stock |
