Wow! What a difference a tank of fuel can make.

I know there was a lot of hype about how quiet this diesel ran when it was first coming to market. My experience has been that that's pretty much all it was - hype. Don't get me wrong I don't think this engine is terrible in the diesel engine noise department, but it certainly doesn't compare to the new VW TDI's. I can see how someone might forget you're driving a diesel in a TDI, but I doubt anybody would make that mistake in a CRD. It's all good for me anyhow - that diesel noise is just music to my ears.

I would say that this little diesel runs a lot quieter and smoother on the ULSD juice. It seems evident that this engine was designed to run on ULSD. This difference might not be as apparent to a friend who occasionally takes a ride in my vehicle, but to me (who drives this vehicle every day) the difference was surprising.

I hear the biggest difference right after I filled up with bio. It runs so quiet and smooth for about half a tank.

My 2000 Dodge RAM 2500 CTD 24V w/275 Marine Injectors was a sweet sounding truck. Gotta love the clatter of the 2nd GEN 24V's, especially on a cold, cold morning.

My 2003 Dodge RAM 2500 CTD HPCR is tons quieter, but sometimes I miss the quiet. The 5" Magnaflow stainless steel turbo-back system gives me a different "noise" to listen to.

The CRD is so quiet........I barely can tell much noise difference between it and the 2002 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 3.7L it replaced.

It was. Take a look in your owners manual.

Just filled up at Sunoco on Rte. 46 E, Palisade Park, NJ.
It was GREEN,
and smelled like PowerServiceWhite, only nicer.
Foamed an awful lot.
Except that I always fill up at this pump, and the sign says
diesel, wouldn't have guessed it was.
