Post subject:  REAR ENGINE SEAL/OIL PAN SEAL

Hello All

I've had an oil leak pretty much since new and is been looked at at least 6 times and had it in the shop for
quite a few days over time for this. I must admit it's very hard to see/trace where it's coming from.

Last time it was in they thought it was rear engine seal, so they dealer was going to replace but they reported the
rear seal cork dry and instead replaced the pan drain plug as per TSB with another type.

Question 1 I have is, how can you see if the rear engine seal is dry without removing tranny ?. nothing was removed.

Personally I think it's the pan gasket now, so I may remove it next oil change, I just removed
two pan bolds and found they were soaked in oil.

Question 2, Does anyone know if the pan can be removed without any problems.

A number of oil leaks showing up in the bellhousing area are originating in a hex plug up by the head somewhere. Do a search.

Yep, number of people have been getting it, including me. Leaks down the back of the engine and appears to be coming from the rear main. First it was the CCV leaking due to a bad o-ring. Fixed that myself, but it still kept leaking. Dealer then determined that it was an oil gally plug on the head. No Dice either, still kept leaking. The next time they put a dye in the oil and had me drive it around for a while. With a UV Light they were able to determine the leak was the valve cover gasket. So far its been nice n oil free!

That's where mine was dripping ... except my torque converter was leaking instead of my engine ... seems to be a pretty consistent area for drips!

I had a tear drop of transmission fluid dripping on the lowest bolt of the transfer case housing. I turned out that the input shaft seal of the transfer case was leaking.
Today I had both the input and output shaft seals replaced on the transfer case at the dealership under warranty.

Since my transmission was in and out a couple times in the transmission fiasco, they had to also take out the transfer case. So the in/out process weakened the transfer case seals.

Well...I've looked and looked but the closest thing I can find remotely close to leaking is bolts holdin the pan up and some "moist" spots around the pan seal,
what gets me is if I undo some pan bolts around the oil filter area they are all soaked in oil,
I fugure thats not normal ?.

Post subject:  Oil pan/transmission front seal

I bought a 2005 CRD Sport 11-11-06, had a ABS light come on on the way home(50 miles from dealer/280 miles from home. A friend looked under the truck to see how the drive train looked and noticed oil. The dealer fixed the axel sensor that caused the ABS light and replaced the oil pan gasket and the front transmission seal, but forgot to reconnect the transfer case linkage. Gaskets and transmission seals seem to be a common theme. CRD is in shop since Tuesday to replace EGR, EGR was replaced Wednesday but a "line" was found to be damaged and has not been delivered yet.
