Ok coming from the UK I run my motors on BP Ultimate Diesel ( I would say this as I work for BP Oil UK retail). Which is way way way better than ULSD.

But then again it is more expensive.

So how many miles to you get to a tank of fuel not looking for your MPG just looking for total miles per tank.

thanks
Fiona.

p.s. what size is the fuel tank in a 2.8crd anyway.?

According to my window sticker a US CRD has a 20.5 gal (US) tank.

How far one goes on a tank is a factor of the vehicle's MPG performance.
When I first bought mine it would'nt even make it to 400miles before the low fuel light lit, and I do over 80% of my driving on the highway.
Currently, with 11,000 miles on it MPG is getting better. It averages about 440 miles before the low fuel light appears.

Hmm... haven't done a strictly highway trip just yet, BUT if my EVIC serves me correctly... which it usually does... at 65MPH (104? KM/h), I can get 29-30MPG. 20 Gallons will take me 580 Miles total... but since nobody sane actually goes to "E" before filling up...

My math says around 445 (716KM) miles before filling up at 1/4, and I'd have to agree with this.

EVIC says that I'm averaging 19-22MPG as of late. This is way better than when it was new... 16MPG city and 22MPG highway.

thanks guys.

My trouble is here in Europe I can either select Metric or US conversion for the over head Computer thing.

Now with being in the uk not got imperial.

Not sure how much difference that makes but as I said averaging 28mpg confirm by the overhead display yet it says I have 161 miles until empty and the tank is full.

seems strange.

I've run mine on a long trip as far as 480 miles and refilled with a little more than 17 gal. Low fuel light had just illuminated on the exit ramp. Seems like conditions have to be just right to stretch mileage, hot & dry. Usually run a little over 400 miles and refill with @ 16 gal. as I like to stay above the 1/4 tank mark.

Post subject:  odometer error

Marlon, My readout of 716 km is in fact over 800 true km. The odometer error with stock 16" tires is about 8%.
The speedo is about 7 % the other way. ie. 100 kph is 93.5 true. (Both checked with GPS
Fuel consumption should take this into acct and will be better!

I've got 32k miles on my KJ crd and I'm lucky to hit 380 miles on a tank...
What gives?
What speeds are you driving?

Not sure what the difference may be. I use mine almost exclusively on the expressway (50 miles each way to work) and I don't make any attempt to baby the thing for fuel mileage. Just run it 4 commutes on 65 mph highways and fill it up.

On the road trip where it did 480 miles, was a mountainous expressway drive through PA. Ran it abusively, intentionally trying to get the turbo to pass oil so wasn't trying for fuel efficiency.

Post subject:  UK Gallon vs US Gallon

1) If my memory serves, a UK Gallon is a slight bit bigger than a US Gallon. Something like 1 UK Gaoolon to 1.2 US Gallons. So we might be talking aples vs oranges here, Scottie. That would explain some high mileage results.

2) The on-board computers are poop (I speak the Queen's English). I measure miles on the trip-ometer (also poop, see odemeter threads for dscussions of up to 10% innacuracy) and at at the same station each time (probably also metered with a poop machine, darn punters).

Best I got calculating this way was 25.5 miles per US gallon on an all-highway trip on summer diesel w/some Biodiesel (probably 20% or so).

BTW, was also burning summer b20 at the time. Not long after thet trip, biodiesel got stupid expensive as compared to dino-diesel around here so haven't been using much lately.

I run a spreadsheet for everything on my Jeep, including fuel, maintenance and someday, repairs.
Here's my fueling records:

Will one of you math whizzes help me out? My speedo reads 4-5 MPH faster than I'm actually going (checked with a GPS).
It's a little more than 4 as my speed increases. And my EVIC shows my MPG as higher by 3-4 MPG than when I figure it out manually.
I have 16" tires. Is there a formula to help me figure out my actual MPG?

Miles Driven (from the Odometer) / Gallons used (measured at the time of your next fill up) = Average MPG or KPL if you replace the Miles with Kilometers and Gallons with Liters.

So fill up the Tank. Drive until it's time to fill up again.. Record the amount of fuel needed to fill the tank and record the odometer reading. Then Divide the two numbers and you get your figure.

Most I have gotten was 550, bone dry all highway little traffic 70 MPH +/- 5 MPH. Usually I hit 220/250 at the halfway mark mixed traffic, town and highway.

This is correct except that the miles that you have travelled is almost 10% more than your odometer reads. You need to find out what your error is. Mine indicates that I have travelled 180 when really I have gone 200. Great as it extends the warrenty almost 10%

you can check the Odometer on the Interstate - they have mile markers - compare 10 miles on your odometer vs 10 markers amd it'll give you a measurement of the error.

I know how to figure MPG using the odometer and the amount of gas I put in, but isn't the odometer off if the speedometer reads 4+ miles faster than I am actually going?
They don't have the highway checks in AZ, but even if they did, all that'd tell me is that my odometer isn't accurate. It would't give me a % or anything to plug into a formula. There must be a formula that will give accurate info. if we can plug in this info: speedometer = +4mpg which means that speed = + x% therefore odometer reads + x extra miles. If I can do that then I may be able to get an accurate MPG.

They don't have mile markers in AZ? That is standard Federal Interstate highway requirements. Not sure if it's true, some owners report the odometer accuarcy is independent from the speedometer. You should check both.

When you do find a road with mile posts, compare actual mileage driven (mile posts) to what your trip odometer is recording. For road-speed, use a stopwatch relative to the mileposts. Set your cruise control to maintain stable speed. Working from 60 mph, it should take you 60 seconds to drive a mile. If you drive the measured mile in 55 seconds, you are going 65 mph (actually 65.45 mph). 70 mph is a 51.4 second mile, 75 mph is a 48 second mile, etc... You can come up with your "% off" with this method for both speedometer and odometer.

From the measured % inacuracy on the odometer, simply plug & play: odometer mileage X (1 + % off) = actual mileage (keeping in mind that % off may be negative). Plug actual mileage into your mpg calculation.

Yeah, we've got mile markers. I was thinking of those big speedometer checks with sineage and all.
I'll run the tests and bring the #s back here. Math is not my thing  Thank you for clarifying and simplifying
the process for me!

My Speedo error is -7% Reads 100 -------- true speed is 93
My odometer is + 11 % Shows 180 ------- true distance is 200
