Ok i really dont care what nada or kelleyblue say i sold my last wrangler double that. Can we expect high dollar amounts for Diesel CRD libs. Ive been thinking about buying a Toyota Land Cruiser and they want 7k over sticker.

CRD' seem to command pretty good prices. I've seen moderate mileage '05's in the high teens/low 20's and the '06's in the low 20's on up. Interesting is the differance between sport and limited prices is narrowing which suggests the CRD is the key feature.

That may be one explaination or it could be becuase the Limited is two insurance levels above the sport, for me it was like another $50-60 month! I dont think everyone in the market for a used CRD is willing to pay the extra premium for insurance. I'm only 22 so it will be a few more years until my rates significantly drop, but that was my justification for buying the sport. just my $.02

Did anyone happen to see the dump of CRD's on ebay this week? Not a good sign, unless you want to buy one.

I just checked Kelley Blue Book, and the trade-in value of my '05 CRD with 15,700 miles on it is about $6,500.00 less than I owe on it. And private party value is about $3,500.00 less. How depressing! :(

Ya I noticed that too. Then I did a search on ones for sale...needless to say KBB is smoking crack.

Didn't catch Ebay, but was on autotrader today and found quite a few CRD's for sale. I keyed in the VIN numbers on Jeeps website for incomplete recalls and out of the 15 I entered, 14 still required the TC replacement, most also required the ball joint and pcm recalls as well. Seems the owners just don't want to bother with getting all the recalls performed. The 1 that didn't show up as recall eligible was a late model 06.

Is there a vehicle made that you can buy, drive for two years, and then sell for what you owe??

Your insurance is because of your age as you stated  It didn't make a difference for me at slightly under 3 times your age :D

Having bought and sold diesel cars for a long while I'll tell you it works like this. At trade in time the dealer tells you" Nobody wants a diesel so you take 50 cents on the dollar  Then I go in looking for a diesel and hear "Diesels are hard to find and we have a waiting list of people looking for them  When I buy a new diesel it's for the long haul. Sooner or later the bugs will be worked out and most likely by the owners and not DC :!: In the mean time be firm with DC and those that bail out will be giving another a oppertunity

And there is the TRUTH about the rare CRD. Consider your self one of the choosen few and rejoice in your oily turmoil...It is your fate

Heh, KBB shows that mine is worth $1,500 more than what I paid the dealer for it. About 4.5k more than what I owe on it. It doesn't really matter though, because I don't plan on getting rid of it unless I hit the lotto and I am able to buy a ML with bluetec.

I have a friend that hasn't driven anything but Toyota's in about 20 years and trades every 2 years on average and is always complaining about how he always owes more on the vehicle then the dealer will give him for the vehicle. He hates the way they drive and look, but tells me he buys them because they are reliable and afordable. I have about changed his mind with my Magnum, 2 yrs old never been to shop with a problem, cost less then his Toyota Matrix, gets as good as gas mileage as his wife's Camray I4 automatic, is far larger and more comfortable then his Toyota and loves the way my Mag drives and rides. What really bugs him is my CRD gets the same or better MPG's then his Matrix.

not the First Chrysler product I've heard of being better then Toyota, try driving a 3/4 ton Ram Truck and getting better mileage then the Tundra or the Titan. Nothing says superior in my book besides bigger truck with better mileage.

I bought my first vehcile was a brand spanken new 1990 jeep wrangler S 4cyl, soft i paid $11,300 including tax and everything. Back then i was more looking for VW cabrio or Isuzu amigo didnt care anything about 4x4 just transpertation to work. Well i drove that jeep 3 years babied sold $10,300 with 45k miles. I also made money on 97 wrangler white sport, 93 sahara,97 green monster sport and drove a gunmetal blue sport for couple grand lost but got 4 years out of it. I think Jeeps done me right! Thats why im very loyal to this brand and also the reason i went Diesel liberty cause i figured VW diesels have a strong following resale.

Bought 99 tac trd loaded auto $20k used sold 05 $13,300 put new starter in,battery. Funny ive done way way better with wranglers folks.

Wranglers are known for retaining their value. The same cannot be said for other Jeeps like a Grand Cherokee, for example. My hope is that a Liberty, with a diesel, should do alright.

I'm thinking even of you don't count the fact that it is a Diesel, the engine in our CRDs is an option. I think my sticker said it was either $2200 or $2500 extra. So just going by the fact that we have an option like that should make it worth a bit more. The Diesel I think will add to the long-term stability of the resale value. Again, my thinking here takes a couple of things into consideration relating to the Diesel engine:

1) More low-end torque...especially useful on a 4x4 utility vehicle.

2) Better fuel economy (8mpg better in both city/hwy based on epa numbers)

3) The reputation of Diesels for longevity

4) The limited number of CRDs that were available.

I could be totally off the mark, but this is the way I am thinking.
