Owners manual calls for changeout at either 22K or 25K miles. Definitely, the fuel system and fuel quality is one thing on these beasts you do not want to take for granted. |

Do you live where the weather gets below freezing? If so, it's a good time for a fresh filter. |

What really sucks is I just paid to have mine replaced 2K miles ago. Got a new one yesterday included under warranty with the new filter/head assembly (due to a fuel leak). |

It all depends on your how clean is the fuel you buy. |

Totally, I have almost 28,000 on mine and it runs great, I buy fuel from just two places and they are both high volume stations with good fuel. I though about changing mine but I think I will milk it a bit more. The filter is huge. |

Think I am having the same problem with mine, sucking air and small amount of diesel staining the front of my fuel filter. Think I will pump up a little pressure and pull the plugs off the fuel heater to see if it is seeping through there. |

Check yours by unpluging the wires and pumping the primer a couple of times (bleeder must be closed). If it leaks, air will escape slowly then you will get fuel. |

The answer is Yes. Most diesel engines have a lift pump located between the tank and the fuel filter and a high pressure/injector pump to provide the pressure to the fuel rail. The Liberty uses the high pressure pump as the lift pump which creates a negative pressure in the fuel filter housing. As the filter starts to clog, the vacuum pressure increases until the seals in the filter housing start to leak and allow air into the fuel system causing limp mode and/or stalls usually while trying to merge into traffic on the freeway. If CEL has a code p0093, replace fuel filter asap to avoid filter head damage. If the service tech cuts the filter open and determines the filter was clogged, you may be stuck with the bill, and the filter head assy I believe is around $200.00. By the way, has anyone found an aftermarket filter? Carquest has had a part # for 6 mos and is still not avail. Racor has a filter assembly w/priming pump for aprox $180.00 but the replacement filter is about $35.00. The OEM filter cost me $36.20 and some dealers may even charge more. MSRP + extra profit just for the he// of it. My dealer treated me extremely well, made friends with serv dept and brought them some homemade beer for appreciation of the extra time they spent not only fixing the problem but finding the cause. |

The fuel or the beer? The biodiesel I got from a company that said it was too old to run in there truck, got 130 gal for free. tried it in my 97 cummins and ran fine until overnight temps hit 40 degrees f. Froze up solid, homebrew good down to 28-32 pending oil source. When the tech cut open my filter it looked like it was caked with petroleum jelly, when I saw that I pulled my truck filter, it was fine. Had my brother pull the filter out of his liberty-orig filter with aprox 12,000 miles, it was fine-needed to be replaced but no grease or sludge. He runs my bio but did not run the free stuff. These crd's must be tempermental to good quality bio and not good in cold weather b20 during winter. As for the beer-october fest, raspberry wheat, and winterfest. Its tough to get a good beer in Utah. |

It's tough to get any beer in utah. Then it's all that 3.2 crap. Unless you go on a military base and get the real stuff. They put stickers on it that read "strong beer"!! |

Cool, I have just started brewing my own beer, and enjoy the Oktoberfest and Raspberry's, if you were interested in buying supplies online I can give you a link that would yield me about 3-5% cash for your purchases. PM me if you want it. They have been fast, and taken care of me well. K |

I went to a couple of pretty good micro-breweries in Ogdon (sp?). When I'm brewing, been a few years now, I've made some wicked batches of Kolsch style. AKA Bitberger Bier. Sorry, off topic, but as it has been said "Beer is living proof that God loves us." (Benjamin Frankling, Patriot and Brewer) Oh yeah, my CO2 bottles have been hooked up to my MIG welder for the past year....sigh. |

just changed my filter at 27K. it was pretty nasty.
its a continuous roll of paper about 20 feet long and folded long-wise. mine was mostly dark brown/black, except for the outer wrappings that apparently don't do much filtering. it was smelly too. the little round thing is a pre-screener that sits at the bottom. |

The outer wrapping is probably the water barrier. |
