After the F37 recall my dipstick keeps raising up the tube and touching the hood. Any ideas why?

They have always done that, you probably just never noticed. Mine has done it from day one new, I just keep it partly tucked under the engine cover and it stays put as it should.

When we got ours back from the TC recall, our bolt that holds it to the tranny was loose, and after it being in there for 2 & 1/2 weeks, you would think they would tighten it, but NO!
And when my hubby picked it up from the recall, it was not in the right spot and him and one of the service writers told the mechanic it was not right and they argued for 10 minutes buy never could get the guy to realize it was not in the right spot!!

Pull out the dip stick...
Hold on to the yellow handle with one hand, pinch the stick part between your pinchin' fingers about 1/2" below the handle...
Bend the stick about 10 degrees...
Put 'er back in...
It won't come out again unless you pull it out or roll the little beast over (don't do that it takes to long to rub out the scratches on the roof)

Hey, why didn't I ever think of that??? I been tucking ours under the rubber edge of the engine cover since we bought it in Sept of '05, because I couuld not figure any other way to keep it in the tube.

Vibration or maybe a inch or two too long.

Excessive Vibration, hoses and lines will start to fail soon, idle the engine and note how much movement there is. The engine mounts do a great job by the way.

With all the correction mod's I have done and the use of high cetane fuel (ULSD now) I have very little engine vibration, less then the last couple of 4 cyclinder gas vehicles. :D

The only things I have done are a V6 airbox and EHM, and I am quite certain that my geo tracker vibrates more than the CRD. It is actually pretty darn smooth at idle.

Maybe your engine is not balanced correctly or something like that.... stranger things have happened.

The rubber plug at the handle is suppose to fit tight enough to hold it in. But once it gets oiled up....... She's commin' out.
Not a unique problem with these li'l oilers. I've been bending dipsticks since about 1972. All makes, all models, if you find one with a bent dipstick handle, it could be one of MY creations, or a cheap reproduction.
Matter of fact, when we bought "The Princess's" 05 back in Oct of 06 it only had 900 miles on it, and that was my first official modification...Bending the Dipstick.
It was backed out when we picked it up. :D

This is interesting.

If the injection timing is out of whack it would sure give it a rough idle and poor mileage.

My tranny dipstick popped out until I bent the tube.

By nature a four cylinder engine will have more vibration than most other engine configuration including a V6, V8, I6 etc. It is what I would call unbalanced formation. To reduce the vibration some companies have fitted their four cylinders with silent shafts or engine stabilizers. The silent shafts or engine stablizers turn in the oppisite direction of the cam shaft in an attempt to reduce vibration. This helps reduce some of the vibrations but they all seem to have a bit of a rattle. As far as the CRD is concerned I don't know what type of engine rattle technology they possess but I really don't care. I gets me from point A to point B, ussually.

Harmonic balancers. V6 engines are extreamly unbalanced and require major help, if I remember correctly I5 is very well balanced engine and does not require a harmonic balancer. And neither does a V10 engine if I'm not having senior moment, but I'm too tired to look it up to be sure. Good night all.

My Tranny dipstick tube was rubbing against the back firewall when I got the car NEW. Made me think that they had shoe-horned that engine in there. Dipstick worked its way out all the time. After th EGR replacement, they had fixed the angle (I didn't want to bend the tube an make it leak at the base). For some reasin the diptick doesn't come out anymore, perhaps because THEY bent the tube, and did the inverse-dipstick mod!
