| Post subject: | AEM Brute force intake - discontinued |
All, this should be an announcement. Many of the websites still show the product but I went through a one week ordeal when I tried to order one: Okay, I talked to AEM directly. The brute force intake has been discontinued before it reached production. They released the retail info back in Jan., but when they dyno tested the CRD with the prototype intake they didn't produce any additional horsepower. When asked if they gained any fuel economy in their tests, they replied that they didn't do any additional testing. I also asked them if they plan to develop another intake for the CRD and they specifically said no that because they didn't gain any HP with this item, that they weren't going to do anything else with the CRD. I guess they marketing people didn't give it the thumbs up because they can market it unless there is a HP gain...lol. Anyway, so much for the AEM intake....it is officially discontinued. |

Have to give AEM a lot of credit for integrity. I supect there are other CAI supplies that are not quite so forthcoming. Remember too, that a lot of folks buy these for the "Cool" factor and associate that with some performance gain. |

Well, I would really like to know if they offer any mpg gain. That is more important to me than hp. The cool effect is nice, but I am also looking for increase turbo sound as well. |

I think the most they ever saw on a VW TDI was just under 1/2 hp for the CAI or a k&N filter. I watched a show on Speed Ch last year and the did a Ford PS and with each mod they put the truck on the dyno and the CALI only gained about 2 or 3 HP and they just kind of got wide eyed and stumbled on past the results. I guess they didn't want to loose a sponser. |

Well, with my 04 Volvo S40 Gasser turbo, I gained 4 to 5 mpg highway with the euro sport tuning CAI. I gave the car to my mother and put the factory air box back on because she didn't like the increased intake sound. As far as HP, I couldn't tell you...but if I can get an extra couple of mpg that would be nice....plus on turbos...these intakes seem to really enhance the sound of the turbo spooling up. Then of course there is still the cool effect. |

On the turbo diesel it will help with turbo spoolup, and "maybe" a little on MPG. Nothing on HP. |
