When I first bought my CRD, the local Dealer in Blacksburg, VA had a fellow that went to the classes on the CRD. He has since left, and I'm a bit concerned that some of the fixes expressed for the CRD (e.g., new TC) might present a challenge to the untrained backup guy How do you find out which Dealers have mechanics trained on CRD? Does DCX keep a list or anything like that? Thanks for any help you can offer. |

I guess you could call up a few and ask them. The TC replacement doesn't involve the CRD, just the tranny part. Any tech worth his keep should be able to do. Same tranny used in a bunch of other stuff. |

DCX does keep a list of Diesel Certified Level 4 techs that have completed training at a DCX training facility. For my area, the techs get sent to Auburn Hills. Unfortunately, that list is not published for public consumption to my knowledge. Polling a dealership is with the correct questioning is the best way and then followed up by the "word of mouth" approach on service reputation. At a minimum, I would want to know how many long term CTD technicians a dealership has and then of those who has gone for CRD training. |

Thanks BVCRD and DZL_LOU, I figured this was the right way, but needed to confirm it. Thanks for the quick reply. |

you might also consider a Dodge dealer. While they might not have a guy trained for the Jeep CRD, they are quite likely to have one or more guys trained on the Cummins diesels in Dodge Ram trucks. And those guys are likely a LOT more experienced actually working on diesels than the Jeep guy (trained or not) is likely to be. |

The Dodge dealer needs to be a Sprinter dealer as they have had all the EGR, CCV and such related problems that the CRD has had. The Cummins are new to EGR's and CCV and tech's that just have that experience will not be up on all the problems the CRD has had as well as the Sprinter tech's. I think it has been my saving grace here because my dealer is a high volume Sprintr dealer with one guy that has been to several Sprinter schools including the new V6 engine traning recently. He was real good on my '83 MB that was EGR & CCV equipped. |
