Showed on the dip stick, could this harm my tranny? I drove all yesterday and towed the large uhaul to boot.

The same thing happened to me. Tomorrow morning your Jeep may stall during stops because of it.

Take it back....

Could be that they are trying to mimic the Toyota 4runner with the new Libby?

Hmm. My CRD is stalling at stops after having F37 done. I checked the level and it's in between the cold and warm mark.

It's acting like it did soon after I bought the CRD before it went in for the filter recall. Any chance they got another batch of bad filters?

Yes it could harm your tranny. I would not be happy.

I wouldn't even drive it back. I would call the dealer and make them pay to have it towed back.

I'd call jeep and chew someone out and demand a new tranny and torque converter.

Find a Dodge dealer. Just Dodge, no Jeep logo anywhere on site. Have them do the CRD warranty issues.
At the VERY least they've some experience with diesel woes. The Jeep dealers....Your chances are better taking it to
Rabid Oil Change.

 Last time the stealership replaced my EGR valve, they forgot to put the radiator fluid back in. I called them to ask about it and was instructed to just go and buy some and throw it in the radiator. What a joke!

You gotta have it towed back to them at their expense....that way...they are on the hook for any damages (if any) that have resulted from the lack of fluid. Just plain stupid if you ask me.

Post subject:  Ok maybe im checking the fluid wrong there is oil up to the

Cold mark if i let the jeep sit a day and check without starting the jeep. Ive learned that you check the fluid level with the jeep running? You wait for the jeep to warm up to operating temp maybe drive a little and check with the engine running while in park. I did this and no oil showed on the dip none zilch nada. I called jeeps 1800 number after findout no oil after the f37 recall she gave me a pony show said to get the regional reps number you go to the service department. Well i did this they will not give out that information, i know its a lady rep one dealer says its her last day? So now im getting the run around and no REPs numbers for UTAH. Im not as pissed as friday now but still this just isnt right the tranny might be ok might not be but im not taking the dealers word on this. If you remember after this recal i was stranded because the cable came loose dealers fault now the oil level dealers fault.

No, call make a fuss, tell them you just had the fluid checked and its low, then drive tranny to failure on the way back to dealer, get new trans......

To quote tom and ray from cartalk.....which would you rather have, a mechanic that comes back and says "We have fixed your [transmission], and everthing should be ok."

Or would you rather hear
"we replaced the transmission [with a new oem trans that some wrench monkey hasnt half-assssed back together]"

At least thats my take on it.

grywlfbg if your tranny fluid is hot and your are in park on level ground and the dipstick shows 1/2 between the hot & cold marks on the dipsticks then youare problably about 4 qts low on fluid. The cold portion does not ever read the correct fill and should not be used.

The reason for all the incorrect fills a is the FSM is telling tech's to only add a couple of qts when servicing the tranny, and the TSB follows the FSM for fill amount. The correct fill after changing the filters or doing the F37 will about 9qts This is a problem that will take forever to be corrected by a revision to the FSM, but in the mean time will cost $$$$$$$ in warranty. I caught the mistake the first time when our CRD was new and they replaced the filters by TSB and then did not properly refill the tranny, lucky for use the dealership was coorerative and the problem was fix before any damage occured. Then when a different tech did the F37 had to show him the same thing.

Maybe I should put this in the CRD FAQ section.

oldnavy, how about if you only drop the pan but do not replace the filters? shouldn't it be about 7 or 8 quarts? I recently had my tranny resealed to correct a very small leak...and the paperwork says they put in 7 quarts.

Yup that sounds about right, if they changed the filters it would have been about 9 qts if I remember correctly. Remember I could be a couple of quarts off as it has been quite a while for old geezer to remember exact details.

A really good tech would have check with dipstick and seen it low, the stick has the test procedure for checking fluid level. But as the first tech in my case he used the cold marks and did not read the instructions on the dipstick, but I check behind the techs and caught the mistake.

Same here. When I got my new TC they didnt put ANY trans fluid in it, the dipstick was bone dry all the way.
Their response"Oh, I guess we have to put some in there". Nobody at the dealership cares, Im telling you. Always try to check as much as possible when you get the Jeep back.

After they replaced my turbo last week I spent about 30min checking all kinds of connections, levels, and just looking at the engine.

Thanks oldnavy. There's definitely a ton of misinformation on the capacity. When I was at Kragen just now picking up the ATF the computer at the parts desk said 4 quarts and the Amsoil printout for the CRD says 5 quarts for the 545RFE

I'm headed out to dinner so once I get back and she's nice and warmed up I'll start dumping fluid to bring her to full hot.

Don't forget if you add a couple of qts to work the tranny by a short drive to warm the fluid back up, and check it again. This is a very finicky tranny when it comes to fluid filling. The mistake in the FSM has made for real problems with a tranny that really didn't have a problems, and was made worse by people who failed to use some common sense, or just didn't care. There are justy too many people out there that with prooperly cared for trannys that have had no problems, that is not saying the tranny is perfect choice for the vehicle. I would have picked the NAG-1 used in the LX cars and Sprinter vans myself and offered a manual. However D/C probably never had plans for the rig other then to see how well it would sell and sell to women.

So I added a quart when I got home (and the stick showed full), took it for a 2-mile drive, and checked it again. Nothing on the stick. So I added another quart. Again for a drive. Again, nothing on the stick. At this point it's dark so I added a third quart and the stick showed full but I'll check it when the wife gets home tomorrow. How the hell could they have let this thing out 3 quarts low? Doesn't anyone at the dealer use the dipstick anymore? Or my guess is if they did they didn't drive it around in between quarts to let it settle in and warm up.

Argh. Hopefully this fixes the suring at stoplights.
