My '05 has a strange issue. When going downhill at 60-70mph either on cruise or without it, when I go downhill I get this studdering that I cannot figure out. I have bled the air out of the filter and that didn't help and it does not have any power loss or running issues otherwise. It did it once or twice on a straight road and a few times going uphill, but it seems most noticable going downhill. My first thought was the torque converter going in and out of lockup. Any ideas? I know if I go to the dealer, they won't be able to duplicate the issue and I want to find out if I should be worried or ignore it. Thanks!

Ignore it and drive it.

I was hoping that someone would say that  Does anyone know what causes this or is it common on these?

Did you try the ORM to see if it stops the problem?

Mine did exactly that, mostly after letting off the throttle after passing, or holding steady throttle going downhill. Mine was only fixed after TC and pump replacement during the F37 recall.

Thats exactly what mine does. Mine has had the F37 recall done to it.

The f37 is a BS band-aid not a fix.

Check your tranny fluid level. After driving it for a while, hot, idling in park. Mine would do the same initially, delivered from the dealer 2 quarts low on fluid. After doing the filter TSB and getting it topped off correctly (by an indy tranny shop), it's never occured again. This tranny will do strange tricks when low on fluid.

I checked it and it was just below the "Hot Full" mark. Did not seem dangerously low.

This is the infamous CRD "shudder". It happens when you apply more than normal throttle (accelerating on an on-ramp, going up a hill, passing traffic) and then back off the throttle. It can happen with cruise control too, in the scenario you describe. This throttle lift causes the drivetrain to stumble. Nearly everyone's seems to do it, it is not fixed by F37, and it is just about impossible to get a dealership to do anything about it or even acknowledge it. It's the only remaining wart on our 2006 CRD experience, and it's annoying because I'm sure it's a fixable thing if Jeep only cared enough to solve it. :(

Doing a search on "CRD stutter" or "CRD studder" or "CRD stumble" in this forum and at jeepforums.com should provide you with some more interesting reading.

Chris, Had you tried the ORM yet?

Actually I haven't, but I only learned about it a few days ago. Does it resolve the stutter too? I've been assuming it's more of a software air/fuel control issue.

I haven't had the stutter since the mod, seems like the transmission shifts better too. I suggest everybody that haven't tried it to do so. I'm happy with it and will continuely be doing the ORM test.

Not everyone's does it... mine does not do anything like that, and never has... before or after F37.
