| Post subject: | ORM: MPG improvement city or highway or both? |
One last time, do we expect/experience better mpg gains in city (higer load) or highway driving? There were some nice theoretical arguments before, but now I'm wondering about people's experience and "gut" My personal experience is that the high-load situations ( my wife drivng around town, me driving in 4 wheel through monsoons) "seem" to be doing better than I'd expect, but the general highway mileage seems similar. However, "I" rarely get to drive the Jeep, and "I" don't always fill it, so my figures are questionable. Also, they just transitioned to summer fuel, and since we don't have to fill-up much, all figures are kinda suspect right now. And I can't do a proper experiment because I ain't ever plugging it back in |

All I can add is that if people don't take the time to really, REALLY top off the fuel each time, at the same pump, and commit to the same driving route and style for several tanks, the data could be skewed by too many factors. Being off by half a gallon could through off your numbers my 1mpg or more depending on miles driven per tank. And no one pump delivers the same amount of fuel indicated as another - they, too can all be off easily by half a gallon per fill up. I have had pumps click off and allow me to pump an additional .5 gallons, or 1.0 gallons, or 1.5 gallons - my testing - taking a full 10 minutes to trickle the diesel in at each of these different pumps to make sure it's full, with no filler neck drain down. If your not being this careful, then 1 or 2 mpg is meaningless in the testing of this thing. |

I agree about being careful. I truly can't be sure about mileage with all the variables. What we CAN hope for is that with enough people trying to compare it ENOUGH times, we can get a rough feel. But this kind of data "averaging" takes lots of datapoints...and lots of time! Now, the EVIC is a POS but is probably consistant. It may not be accurate, but it should be able to useful to evaluate change. Anybody with a EVIC played witht the mod? |

I cant say i am faithful in filling it up all the time but i pump till she clicks every time and before the orm i was getting aboot 10L/100km or 25 mpg. Just did 2 long trips over 1000km with orm and i never noticed any difference in the mileage. No evic all hand work. But with 25 mpg i am not complaining and diesel is cheaper than gas here |
