Post subject:  A Two-Diesel Family Now

We sold the 300C and bought a 2007 Mercedes ML320 CDI on Saturday. They're offering 2.9% (advertised at 3.9, but they're allowed to go to 2.9%) financing until the end of the month. What an amazing diesel engine. It is so quiet and powerful when the turbos kick in. It must be the 7-speed automatic that causes it to get about 4mpg better in town than our CRD. It's getting about 22 in town and about 27 on the highway.

Our neighbors are all hybrid fanatics - Toyota Highlander Hybrids everywhere. They all came over to see the ML. When we told them that the ML was getting 27 on the highway and that the Liberty has gotten between 27 - 33 in the past, they were floored. None of their Highlander Hybrids do that well above 65 mph. And then there's that whole replacement battery cost looming in the distant future for their cars.... I'll take the diesel route in this whole debate. I think hybrids are a neat idea for the short-term, but the environmental impact of producing those hybrid battery packs is horrendous. To each his own, I guess.

Anyway, just thought I'd let y'all know that we are supporting the DC (or I guess it's now just "D") diesel revolution in the US.

You'll need to get a german import:
http://www.continentalengines.com/ce_manufacturers/ce_manu_hatz.asp (I think the 1B20V is the best match :)

We're down to two, but the lineage is there....

Current: 2005 Liberty CRD Sport
2000 F-350 Powerstroke

Past: 1998 VW Jetta TDI (sold to buy the F-350)
1996 Dodge 2500 Cummins
1986 Isuzu Trooper II Turbo/D
1985 VW Jetta Diesel (no turbo - 52 hp, but got over 65 mpg on one tank!)

Not really, I just live near where we all end up at some point. The Magnum has 33,xxx miles and will be 3 years old in Oct this year.

I will be draining the fuel tank this weekend and installing new brake lines, then the MB will be ready for daily driving or road trips.
