Need help in placement of a pre-turbo T-couple on the 2.8L.
Where did you tap yours in?
OR
Suggestions?
Pics would be appreciated.

I've been looking for places to install one, too. I noticed there are some bosses in the exhaust manifold for the heat shield bolts. I wonder if one of these bosses can be drilled and tapped for the thermocouple?

I just drilled the exhaust pipe right out of the turbo outlet yesterday. I had intended to drill pre-turbo in the manifold, but once I pulled the heat shield, there was so little room on the exhaust manifold, I went post-turbo instead. I looked at the mounting bosses for the heat shield, but they weren't large enough, imo, without drilling and retapping too close to the edge of the casting. I would have preferred pre-turbo. The exhaust manifold is surprisingly small for an engine of this displacement size.

I don't have pictures but I put mine in turbo. I pulled the turbo off and drilled and tapped the side facing the fire wall. The hole was around an inch from the flange and I ground some of the writing off on the housing. There is literaly no place in the manifold to put the thermocouple. From start to finish was about 4 hours.

Hey rs4,
What do you mean "I ground some of the writing off on the housing"?.
Is the writing raised and interfered with the drill, tap, and placement on the backside?
What do you think about going thru the bosses with a 1/8" T-couple?
