| Post subject: | ORM is for real |
So I started using the ORM about 2 months ago because my milage was terrible after F37. Pre F37 is was getting 25mpg, post F37 I was getting 19mpg. After starting the ORM my fuel milage returned to 25mpg. I thought it maybe due to the winterized diesel. Recently I stopped the ORM due to a dealer visit and my last tank of freeway driving I got 19mpg. So I reinstated the ORM and drove that exact same freeway going the other direction and got 28mpg. That is 9mpg improvement. The ORM is for real. Oh it also shifts smoother and doesn't die in traffic. Just had to through this in.

I have had the same positive experience with the ORM. Went from 22 to 23 mpg to 27 to 28 mpg with my 70% HW and 30% city driving. Many on this board have not had such a milage gain, if any with the ORM. Must be some other factors that are effecting their mileage. All I know is that I just filled up at Hess ($2.79 a gallon) vs $3.09 for unleaded gas. I got 27 mpg and this weekend I can tow my boat with my CRD. Don't know of any other SUV on the road that can do that. I am feeling much better than when I bought mine last August and started reading this board. |

Wish I had the same luck. The ORM reduced my mileage by about 1 to 2 mpg on average. Don't know. Too many variables in these things for me to figure out... Someone suggested that I had too much of a lead foot and that can affect it (which I have a major lead foot because I enjoy the 0-40mph ride so much). |

These are my Findings, your results may vary: Three methods of measuring MPG 1) fill up 2) scan gauge 3) Overhead computer ==================== 1) by fill, up no change 2) by scan gauge, no change* 3) by overhead computer, temporary 5mpg increase** Notes: *W/ or w/ out ORM scan gauge appears to be more accurate or close to the fill up method than the over head computer, the over head computer always reads a few mpg higher than the other two readings. Kinda funny b/c the scan gauge crashes every so often and i assume it isn't sampling during those times. ** Overhead computer seems to get confused initially when the ORM is activated and reads high bout 5mpg, then after the first run( when the check engine light comes on), and the Overhead computer reads more accurate. This happens both w/ activating and deactivating the ORM. Other Notes: The Scan gauge can definitely quantify a drop in intake air temp when running the ORM. Usually swings between 100F and 130F where b4 it was 150F to 180F. Ive been driving around in Tx where the ambient air temp has been about 70F to 90F. I cleaned my MAP sensor right b4 running the ORM and it was very ditry, im looking forward to seeing how dirty or not dirty it is after a few thousand miles. |

o8k All my mpg measurements are by direct fill up. I always fill up to the same point and reset my mileage every time. I have measured my odometer against road markers and it is very accurate. I buy fuel at the cheapest I can and based on comments from this board, the only one I stay away from is Shell. I do not trust my gas gauge, but I do show over 250 miles at a half a tank now verus a little over 200 before ORM. I have no computer or scan guage. The fact that your overhead computer has a temporary mpg gain must mean something is going on. Still interested why some CRD's get a mpg gain and some don't. Perhaps something to do with the emmisions in the engine is stuck or staying open permanently. |

Old Navy Seems like there may be a need for some experimenting to be done on this by people who are not getting the benefit of ORM. Serveral week ago I had to plug back in for some tire service and I immedately felt the loss of power. As soon as I unplugged it came back. Has to be something not working the same in all vechicles. |

What is wrong with Shell fuel? The closest diesel to my house is Shell, so I use it quite a bit and haven't had any issues with it. I didn't run too long with the MAF hooked up, but I have tested the ORM by driving with it unhooked, then hooking it back up for a test run. There is a difference for sure. The engine is quieter at idle, and throttle response is a little more sluggish. The biggest thing I noticed was the intake air temp jumping WAY. Like 80 degrees or so. I don't care if it gets me better mileage or not, I just don't want all that soot and garbage in my intake. There is no need for that. I just too a 1200 mile trip in my CRD and I'm really pleased. Best mileage was 30.2mpg. That's amazing considering it's a 4x4 SUV that can tow 5000lbs. |

I am pretty anal about checking the fuel milage after all fillups on all my vehicles. To me poor fuel milage is an indicator something is wrong. My experience with the ORM has been very positive. It is definately not a coincidence. This past tank not running the ORM I had to fill up at 337 miles. With the ORM I usually go to 470 before I get the low fuel light. |

I ran the ORM for about 6000 miles with no problems at all. I recently had to hook the MAF back up and remove my Sp diesel module for a trip to the dealer to get my ball joint recall taken care of. Anyway, after 3 trips the ckeck engine light went away and everything worked fine. I thought maybe the egr would be cloged up and not operate at all. I think that the because the egr never opens with the ORM, there isn't any soot pumping up into it since there is no place for it to go... Also I do run my module turned up to "Hi Output" alot and I don't run ULSD fuel. Now that my recall is finished I will be going back to the ORM and pulling off my Cat and muffler. |

I never saw any change in my mileage 25 before and 25 after. Will be doing some exhaust work here and im goin to block off the egr line. Maybe the egr is stuck open a little But not complaining gas is $1.25 and diesel is $0.999 a liter. In edmonton diesel can be got for 80 cents a liter still |
