Post subject:  7 Quart Sump Capacity w/ EaO-26 Filter

Just changed out the oil after the trip to Texas. I spun on one of the Amsoil EaO-26 oil filters I bought. Same thread and gasket as the -34, but considerably bigger, close to 2 inches longer and a 1/2 inch bigger diameter.

-26 filter went on without any problems, plenty of clearance even with skid plates.

Dumped in the regulation 6 1/2 quarts, ran the engine for 3 minutes, then let it sit for 1/2 hour before checking level. Instead of being 1/8 inch below the full mark as normal, it was actually below the minimum mark. Took another 1/2 quart, a full 7, to bring it up to it's normal full mark (1/8 inch below maximum).

No more half full oil bottles sitting around, just dump in a full 7 and forget it!

My ASFIR Aluminum Skids would not give me any extra room. Glad yours worked!

Hummm, I like the sound of that for sure. Has it got the same by-pass pressure rating as the 34, if so I will go for it also.

I cross-referenced the -34 and -26 over on the Wix site, and going by that at least, they have essentially the same bypass D/P setting.

Only one down side I've seen so far - the -26 is big enough in diameter that the oil filter wrench I've used for years is too small to fit on it, I had to use a strap wrench to tighten it down.

A note to the 3.7 gasser crowd - same thread and gasket as on your engine, and if I understood Ranger1 correctly, he checked his '02 3.7 and there's enough clearance for the -26 filter to fit on your engines as well.

Personally I've never had a leak using just my fingers, then again I am 25 and full of pi$$ and vinegar.

I've always just used my hands to tighten oil filters. As soon as the gasket hits, I turn it another turn or so and I'm done.
