Disconnected the MAF last night and just completed about 100 continuous miles this morning. The CEL has not come on. Does it take a few cycles? |

Yes, mine comes on the 2nd cycle after disconnect, like clockwork |

From what I know, I believe it usually takes two driving cycles from CELs to be tripped. |

Yeah, it comes on briefly every time I start it, along with all the other warning lights. |

Let me ask the converse question - what's the most reliable way to turn the CEL off after plugging the MAF back in? I went to the dealer yesterday for an oil change, and I had a tough time getting the CEL out. I read that it took three ignition cycles with at least 30 seconds of "on" time to clear the code. On the drive to the dealer, I tried turning the ignition off and on (one position) four times with one minute between each cycle. This didn't seem to work, and I figured perhaps the key has to turn all the way off for the computer to be happy. Next, I tried actually pulling over and shutting off with the key out for about 15 seconds, then starting it back up and driving for a few minutes. Even after pulling over four times, this didn't reset the light. I started leaving it off longer and driving around longer, and eventually on one of the restarts the light was out. Clearly the computer has some criteria that it would like to see before considering three cycles to be up. Does anyone have any information on the most efficient way to reset the CEL in short order on the way to the dealer? - Chris |

I think it requires 3 start cycles as in.... start cool run till normal operating temp is met then shut off till it cools down (how cool I dont know). |

Either that or stop by you favorite chain of automotive stores and have them clear it with their reader for free. |

Disconnected mine on Saturday morning, went out to breakfast with the wife. Came on when we left the breakfast joint (2nd time the car was started post un-plugging). |

Claim ignorance and let the dealer do it under warranty! |
