Post subject:  Please help me help the tech

So the previous post was a failed cam sensor. I spoke with the tech after he replaced the failed cam sensor in my dead CRD; this did not fix the problem. He is stumped and is now looking elsewhere for the problem. He feels it is a fuel delivery issue (injector pump, injector, control to the injector pump) and is starting back at square one. Here is the total run down on what happened:

1) Installed the new CAT 2 micron filter
2) bled the air out of the fuel system
3) fired right up
4) let run for 10 minutes to make sure all was well with the conversion.
5) had lunch
6) hopped in, fired her up and drove for 3 blocks at low speed
7) STALLED CRD
8) coasted to the side of the road and tried to restart....no go
9) walked back home an grabbed the 11 mm wrench...re-bled the system (no air just diesel)
10) no go and had it towed to the dealer where he diagnosed a cam position sensor failure and ordered the part.
11) he installed the sensor and still no dice.

My thoughts are that there was a failure of some sensor or fuel delivery component. But here is where I am confused, after more research I am leaning toward an absence of air not fuel. When I tried to restart it the engine sounded different...not like it was short on fuel. AND when it stalled it did not act like a loss of some fuel, it acted like someone turned off the ignition switch. Could the FCV have failed closed and starved the engine of air?

Why am I so bent when the issue is still under warranty? I have a trip planned for the 29th of June and if the tech just starts ordering and replacing parts in hopes that he stumbles onto the fix it may take a while. I would like to help narrow the field of possible problems before he gives up, rolls it into the lot, and hands in his parts request.

Thanks gang.

Mike

It seems that when others have had a no go and no CEL that the FCV has oft been the culprit. I would have the tech check it.
