Hi all,

I found a 2006 CRD with 13K miles on it for sale at a non-dealer lot and I have some questions.

1) Is there some kind of warranty from DCX that can be transfered to me?
2) Can the transmission shudder be induced during a test ride and is this a deal breaker?

I really like the idea of a diesel SUV and if it worked properly, it would fit my needs for a long time, but I worried about not having some sort of warranty. I have a ZJ with 184k miles and it's been a good reliable car, but thank God for the warrany it came with because the first 30K was a little rough.

TIA for your help,
Eric

I'm not 100% for sure but I think you can go to a DC dealer and for a fee get the warranty xfered to you.

My CRD has had the "shudders" since mile one when I drove it home but I can't reproduce it at will. Some say they can and others say they don't have the shudder. Here's how most experience the shudder. From a stop use moderate peddle to get to maybe say 54 mph then let off slightly to maintain that speed. I once had it happen at 70 mph and it was a very violent feeling

I personally think without the sun coast TQ they will all do it if conditions are right. It does not look like DC is going to be any help

I purchased my 06 in late 05 and got a special incentive of 5/60 so check that out too.

Standard warranty for 2006 model is 3/36, Not sure if it can be transfered or will be honored by DCX. Extended warranties are available but will cost you.

If you read the threads about the shudder, Many people had it and it would come and go. When my CRD was new, I noticed it between 45 and 55 and would occur on acceleration only. It occured every-once-in-a-while. So I don't know how you could reliable reproduce it.

The reflash took care of the shudder for me.

The shudder is no big deal. After you experiance it a couple times you can reproduce it easily. You can also avoid it just as easily. If you start to feel it just let up on the gas for a second or to and then power thru it.

or just unplug the MAF, (off road mod), this fixed my shudder now for over 5000 off road only miles

really though, the CRD is a great rig in the right greasy hands. will take some time online here and elsewhere, and some monkey wrenching to make it better, but what good thing was ever good right out of the gate?

Most of what this site has done for me is make me paranoid about my CRD. I keep a sharp eye out on oil and transmission fluid levels, I pay attention to each transmission shift and look for any evidence of shudder. I drive around without the radio off so I can listen for anything out of the ordinary. My CRD is under more scrutiny that any vehicle I've ever owned. It's as if I'm waiting for it to fail, but it never does. It starts in the first hit, idles steady, runs great, returns good fuel mileage, rides and drives great, and is very comfortable. It just works for me.

I dump out the spooge from my Provent every so often, and it's comforting to know that's not getting into my engine. I have my MAF unplugged, so the EGR is not working, and that soot is not going into my intake. I've learned some very valuable information here, but you have to take it with a grain of salt. Seperate the wheat from the chaffe. The doomsday, woe is me, the Liberty CRD is going to fall to pieces the next time you drive it crowd is in the minority. Chrysler has sold a TON of Libertys all over the globe. Sure, they have their warts, but for the most part, any modern vehicle you buy today is going to be reasonably reliable. It's a price point vehicle. You have to accept that some corners were cut to deliver a vehicle that is profitable for the company while being somewhat affordable.

The aftermarket has stepped up to supply parts to rectify the weaknesses, so any issue you are having can be fixed, and you will have a unique, good running little SUV. Like nothing else on the road in the US today.
