oldnavy: Instead of buying the crated 6CYL MB CDI it would be more cost effective to grab a wrecked (rolled is best) Sprinter van or MB sedan that will have a lot of the goodies needed for an engine transplant into an older Jeep. I have done several engine repowers to diesel and buying the crated engine would be a down payment on the project.
Since both of these diesels are electronically controlled engines, having the complete wiring harness that has the plugs on both ends will save many hours and hundreds of dollars. Having the pot for the throttle along with the plugs is another plus. Making the adaptor plate to bolt the new engine onto the transmission bell housing is the easy part of the conversion. Torque converter to crankshaft flex plate is a little bit more work, but doable.
Good luck,
Steve
