The drain plug on my CRD became stripped. I would like to fix it and just make my life easier with the fumoto. Could someone give my a part # for the CRD Pan plug. I was looking and was having a hard time locating one for the CRD
Thanks

If you are new to the CRD forum and CRD you need to read the CRD FAQ section. The answer to you question is there. The link to LubercationSpecialist on that page is only place you can get the adaptor required for installing the Fumoto valve and he also sell those.

oldnavy,
Sending him to the punk page seems a little harsh.

By the way I just got a Fumoto valve and CRD adapter from Greg, they came with only one washer do I need two? What is the washer made of?

Greg answered that here a few days ago. You use the factory washer between the pan and the CRD adapter and the included washer between the Fumoto and the CRD adapter.

Not harsh at all, simple logic to help the individual. He will learn a lot reading through those postings and save him from asking redundent questions (maybe) and should provide that person with a lot of quick help or answer questions before he even knows to ask them.

YEAH! blame the computer.... There is no such thing as computer error. They do things wrong exactly the way you instructed them to

Having attended my first computer programmer training cource in 1963 and tought computer repair and electronics before retiring I can tell you for a fact that computers have a mind of their own and are planning to take over the world in 2010 but until that time they are messing with our minds.

Where was I???

It's either the computer or the wife! I got rid of the wife so I now blame things on the computer or the dog.

What kind of monstrocity computer were they using in 63?

It is hard to really explain, but think of a computer that is about 4' deep, 15' wide and 6' tall, that the memory disk were similar to 331/3 record, but bigger and thicker, with boards that looked like the old operator cord plug boards in old time movies from the 30's & 40's, then think about how little it could do and how slow it was compaired to todays computers. I can't remember the memory size any more on the one I was trained on but, I would guess it had way less memory then a modern CD. I would guess 150-300 meg or less. It was an IBM of course, and actually caught on fire one day. Everyone paniced and was screaming and such, one person called the fire dept, but they couldn't shut the thing off. I walked around in back and pulled the power plug and solved the problem, my boss got really mad and started calling me lots of not nice names for unpluging and causing a big memory dump I think. Maybe that was what he was excited about. Anyway I quit and joined the USN a few weeks later. I have often thought over the years that I should have just run out the door like several others did and let the thing burn down the building.

Back in 63 the hard disks typically went in in "pacs" and each disk held about 1meg of data. When I was at the U of Arkansas in the early 70's the engineering computer(IBM 370) was upgraded to about 512K of ram(magnetic core memory) seems like it took about 5-600 square feet. Programs were entered via 80 column punch cards.

Yes the IBM 370, if I remember correctly, came out a few years after I went into the USN in the fall of 1963. I think the one we had where I was working had like I said somewhere in the 150k RAM, but the more I think about it, it may have been a lot less. The unit I decribed earlier was just the container or drive unit for the disk. It had a control unit/center that was a large desk like affair about 6 or 8 feet long where the punch cards were entered, print outs were made, and the general controls were. Also in the room was the colliater (sp) where the cards were sorted (I was it's programmer, I had replaced a guy that had electricuted hisself) and I seem to remember the cards were 88 column. However over the years since then I have had my brain rattled real hard a few times by everything from explosives to really nasty chemical fumes and I have a lot of trouble with memory.

My Dad was doing his Doctoral thesis on computers in 1963. He met my Mom at the Univ of KY computer lab. She was the "punch card lady." She carried the "database" (big colated stack of punch cards) from one lab to another. People knew to get out of HER way. One card out of order...database ruined.

I think Dad worked on DECs, but I could be mistaken. They looked something like this...

I remember those punch card stations for sure. I is hard to believe that computers have come so far so fast, especially in the last 15 years.
