Post subject:  Exhaust question

So my question of the day is: is there any reason we need the cat? To me it just seems like yet another restriction. Assuming my vehicle is *offroad only* :wink wink:, is there any reason that can't go too? I'm strongly just considering having someone fab me up a turbo back straight pipe complete exhaust setup, just want to know if anyone can think of any reason that wouldn't work.

Someone here was told their modified exhaust was taking out the egrs on their crd. This was a dealer and refused to warranty anymore until the exhaust was changed back to stock. I think that is b.s. thinking by the dealer. I don't see a problem with your exhaust plans.

I read somewhere that the cats on full size diesel trucks only subtract about 1 hp, I left mine on.

You can also buy higher flow performance cat's that do not restrict your exhaust. That is what I will be doing one of these years...

ORM has already been done so EGR isn't an issue :D

Just think of the cat as a big soot trap. I didnt see mine when it was removed but a buddy of mine said his was pretty plugged when he had his removed. Im sure it is exactly like the egr when it comes to plugging. The honeycomb in there will slowly plug and cause a big restriction. It is like the exchangers we have at work as long as the flow is max the plugging is not a problem but slow the flow down and stuff will stick, i dont know aboot you but i can not drive wot all the time.

The cat is there for emissions so if only using the jeep offroad then there would be no problem, but doing the orm is also going against emissions.......
