I ordered a replacement element from "Air Supply Now" for $29.50 - got it a week later and the buggers charged my credit card $17 to ship the <1 lb package. Should have shopped around. Found the element for $21 plus $8 shipping here:

Sorry to hear about the charge. I've been happy with reliable industries for my provent. If you don't mind, how long did you have yours in place before needing to change the filter and what told you it was change-time? I was under the impression that they'd last years under normal use.

I haven't replaced the Provent filter element yet, but with >55k miles on it I just figured it was getting close to needing a change out. I don't know how to tell when to change it - any input would be helpful.

Don't think there is anything to wear-out. Got rid of the Jeep but kept the Provent. I rinsed mine with ether/starting fluid when I packed it away (just make sure it's completely dry before reusing).

I have replaced my element once, after about 10k miles and will be replacing it again soon - I think I am going to try to clean them and keep them next time. My element is completely black, saturated with oil and dripping after 10k miles. I am thinking about changing the ACTUAL PCV valve on the valve cover soon; I think it might be part of the problem and is passing even more oil than the typical CRD.

But anyway, that's my change interval at current.

The element is a Provent isn't a filter exactly - it's a condensation point - i.e. the oil is in suspension due to the dynamics inside the engine, so anything that causes the oil to slow will condense it - it then drips out the bottom. So I think as long as it doesn't have any holes - and it's not solid it should be okay

You want to be watching this situation closely. The last 6K miles I had the CRD, I recovered well over 1qt of oil in my recovery bottle. Didn't notice until I cleaned & packed the Provent for storage but there were rubber chunks in the goo. They were too big to be from the puck diaphragm and to big to have passed through a working puck. Something rubber was coming apart inside the engine and obviously took out the diaphragm in puck with it. Absolutely pointless to argue about this oil pig with DCX, 1qt per 1000 miles is their acceptable oil consumption standard.

RFCRD - thanx for the heads-up; I'll keep an eye on things.
