So... I'm in Indy to visit some family and friends(hometown) and I've seen like 4 or 5 CRDs!! I live in the Tampa area currently and have only seen like 2 or 3 CRDs in the last 2 YEARS!!! And one of them was from out of town!

Why is Indy such a CRD hot-bed? discuss...

We had a large local supply when they were new at dealerships. I got mine out of Kokomo, IN and they had 14 CRDs on the lot and there were another 20 around town here in Indy that I passed on.

Bought in state, kept in state.

One can only speculate as to what motivated new CRD allocation. I think my region only got 20-30 for the entire run.

I have seen several around town, but not a huge number. I bet I spot one either on the highway or in a parking lot maybe twice a month at the most.

When I was in Nashville, TN a few weeks ago, I saw three in the span of two days.

I think it's more about being in the right place at the right time....like two ships passing in the night....

2005 liberty Sport CRD

When originally shopping for a CRD I kept a spreadsheet of the entire, online-accessible inventory at dealers within 100 miles of my house. Over a 4 month period that was over 200 vehicles. But, rarely are they seen driving around here. In the past two years I've seen three.

Some dealers would turn over their CRD inventory quickly. Others would languish -- I'd put my money on ignorant sales people as the reason. In the end I didn't even buy a CRD from a dealer carrying it in the showroom. A friend set me up with the fleet manager at a dealer and I got a factory ordered CRD for a couple percent under invoice.

Although unsubstantiated, I have a theory that the CRD's were moved to states or specific locations with DCX factories or suppliers. Since these employees normally swap out owning/leasing DCX cars through special incentives, DCX thought that the CRD's had better chance of getting bought/leased/resold.
