| Post subject: | Crate 5 Cyl MB Diesel for sale |
I was out to the local Dodge/Jeep dealer to get the MB inspected and rub some salt in the wounds of the sales staff, when I noticed a crate 5cyl MB diesel sitting in the parts room. It is everything for a drop in except starter & IP, even has turbo and fuel filter. I can't remember which year models it's for, but I think it is an '03 to '06, but if anyone want's more info for possible instal into another vehicle PM me. The parts guy said $9995 for the engine, if you have a core to trade it would be $6495 out the door. This does not include state sales tax but if sold to someone out of state no sales tax would be involved. I'm not sure, but you may be able to haggle on the price as they have two of these crate engines. I would love one of those in a Wrangler or in about an '87/88 Cherokee. |

oldnavy: Instead of buying the crated 6CYL MB CDI it would be more cost effective to grab a wrecked (rolled is best) Sprinter van or MB sedan that will have a lot of the goodies needed for an engine transplant into an older Jeep. I have done several engine repowers to diesel and buying the crated engine would be a down payment on the project. Since both of these diesels are electronically controlled engines, having the complete wiring harness that has the plugs on both ends will save many hours and hundreds of dollars. Having the pot for the throttle along with the plugs is another plus. Making the adaptor plate to bolt the new engine onto the transmission bell housing is the easy part of the conversion. Torque converter to crankshaft flex plate is a little bit more work, but doable. Good luck, Steve |
