Tuesday was my one year anniversary. I’ve covered 23,865 miles in the first year and the only trip back to the stealership was for a recall (got another notice so I’ll be going back again soon). I am getting an occasional tranny shutter but I can live with it unless it gets worse. I burned 999.73 gallons of fuel and averaged around 24mpg. Here’s the good and the bad:
The Good
Economy
Clatter
Cool factor that rivals the Xterra
Lots of mods
Sirius
The Bad
Not enough economy
Not enough clatter
Factory tires suck
Clearance (now lifted)
Tranny issues
Overall, I’m satisfied but I do miss the 50mpg I got on my VW’s. I looked at a 2006 Jetta but passed because the dealer wanted sticker ($25k+) and the EPA highway was a measly 41mpg. This turd was rated at 28mpg highway so I figured I could buy more diesel, have 4WD, and still break even for a while with a purchase price of $22,700. I think that’s a lot of vehicle for that kind of money. I would have NEVER considered this vehicle without the diesel. The Libby is easier on my hip/sciatic nerve on long drives too. I think my chipped TDI engine would have been great in this (about 125hp) with a 5 speed but I’m sure there would’ve been emissions issues.
Anyhoo, that’s where I am after one year!
