| Post subject: | Break-in period and ORM question |
This new to me CDR came with only 7500 miles. Needless to say she has not worked hard at all and never pulled anything as I installed the hitch 3 days ago. given the milage and general break-in procedure is it to early to to the ORM modification? I've just cleaned the MAP and it was very pluged up preaty good. For the past 300 miles I've been pulling my boat in various gears, speeds, RPMs. What blows my mind is the power and torque range this little rig has. Pulling the boat in the 5th gear I turn the same RPMs as when the truck is empty. Very nice feeling. Have to see the actual MPG count but I guess it is too early to expect the best economy at this stage.... So, the ORM or not???? |

This engine did not originally have an EGR, so it is not going to hurt the engine at all. If anything, it should prolong the engines life-- keeping soot and grit out of your engine oil. |

I would recommend doing the ORM as Pablo mentioned but I would also install a Provent or do the EHM. |

I pulled the MAF this am on my way to work. Did get the CEL as expected. The thing that blows my mind is the power/torqu on this little mule. Towing my 17ft boat (2500lb +/-) I turn same RPMs at 65MPH as when the truck is empty! I did drive her 2 day to the lake and back in the 4th gear at 2800RPM just to blow things out, as the previous owner did not exercise this diesel to its full potential. One thing I noticed last nite while cleaning my MAP was the 110V plug with maybe 5 feet of wire. Looks like this one is equiped with the heater. Is this a standard option? Do you guys plug it in the winter time? I never had any issues with my TDIs in Michigan even on the coldest days. Thanks. |

Standard! You will not a wrap on the battery and it is supposed to be heated too. I plug mine in when temps start dropping to 0 degrees for days. I have forgotten sometines though and it has not seemed to change the way it starts. Might be more critical if you were running B20. |

Actually, I met a local LOST member whose '05 CRD doesn't have an engine block heater.. so maybe it's an option? |

It is standard. Either dc forgot it when assembling or he just hasn't found it yet. |

Slick, I like that option at the same time I would have to remember to unplug it in the morning LOL. |

Yeah, the block heater HAD to come standard and not an option. Mine has one and it was originally purchased here in FL. Not much chance of me needing it here. |

Skywarn is the member who does not have an engine block heater.. it's definately not there on his. His CRD also has various different items on it like the 'upper tray' that holds the wires/stuff over the top of the engine.. (his is taped and he has another metal tray below) different foam stuff on the underside of his hood (mine doesn't even have it), plumbing in the back-passenger side engine compartment is different, his lower a-arms have different attachment bolts than mine... oh, and he doesn't have a green diesel fuel cap. |

I remember the heater being "optional" when you built one on the site, Mine was Zip tied to the Dip stick tube, or there abouts. K |

My 100V iz zip-tied to the dip stick, no green fuel cap, not sure the variance on the a-arms... |

No B20 available in W. Michigan during winter mths. Only B5. |
