I'm interested in seeing how many CRDs this has happened to. I'm talking about the situation where you accelarate from a stop and suddenly lose all power, have to pull over, rough running, won't gain speed, etc. but the vehicle is fine once turned off and back on, with seemingly no explanation. I'm not looking for the cases where something was actually repaired to get the vehicle running again. I personally have never had this happen, just read about it. |

It would be interesting to see if the 2004's and older with the different Fuel Head setup go into limp mode as often as it seems some of ours do. I have not gone into limp mode since they replaced my engine at 8,102 miles and replaced my filter head soon after. |

Different head and a lift pump! |

My 05 went into limp mode early on and the transmission filter recall fixed it. Any number of things can cause it to go into limp mode. My buddies went into limp mode due to the MAP sensor. |

my limp mode was due to a tranny fault. it threw tranny codes, then after 5 miles, whent to limp mode. |

CATCRD is talking about a condition that goes away after a re-start. The MAP problem and some others don't count in this poll, thats why I said no even though I had a MAP problem. |

YES!!!! I wish we could quit calling this "limp" mode because "limp" is a recognized term in the auto industry for a programmed shut down of some automotive systems and putting the transmission in a low gear after specific codes so you can "limp" in for service without damaging things. Generally it shifts the tranny into a low gear and leaves it there. We are experiencing what is likely a fuel starvation, partial stall that makes the CRD feel like it is running on maybe 2 cylinders. It runs and sounds rough, has no power at all but will turn high RPM's. It typically will not throw a code. IT IS DANGEROUS if it occurs at the wrong place or time. A dealer will call this "limp mode" if you do and he will think in his known terms about the reasons and will likely miss the real problem. He will also wonder why there is no code and assume that it was one of those conditions that clears itself after a while like an ORM CEL after you plug the MAF back in and restart a few times. PLEASE DON'T KEEP CALLING THIS "LIMP MODE" OR WE MAY NEVER GET IT CORRECTED!!!!! |

From my Audi days, we always called it turbo lag. Lag is what I have experienced once with this Liberty. Luckily, I was not going through an intersection and did not have anyone following me. I was leaving a friends house, going down hill. When I stepped on the accelerator, it died and had no power so I let off the accelerator and coasted for a few seconds and it eventually straightened out. I was able to then accelerate normally without shutting the engine off. I'm sure it was an air in the fuel problem, but it felt exactly like the turbo lag in my Audi. |

Just the other day I had stopped to pick some one up. After leaving their house the next hill I attempted to go up on a small side street showed that something was wrong. It was if the turbo was making no boost. It wasn't running ruff, but as soon as you tried to accelerate nothing. I was able to make it to a AutoZone a couple of blocks away. I shut off and then had them try to pull any codes and nothing. When I started it back up it ran fine and was then making boost. My ESP light was on. I drove a couple of blocks and shut off again. After restarting this time no lights and everything was working fine. This was maybe a month ago and it hasn't happened again. Charlie |

My transmission fault did go away after restart. |

No it isn't turbo lag but yes the CRD does do that too. Mash the throttle hard and nothing, feather it and it goes like h*ll. Quote: Just the other day I had stopped to pick some one up. Nope I don't think that is it either. Seems to me that I have seen a few post about something similar and as I recall it is an error in the traction control system. You may have slipped your wheels a little and the system tried to cotrol what it thought was a skid by applying brakes and/or reducing throttle. If you were trying to add throttle while it was trying to reduce it it probably really got confused. FUEL STALL occurred once with me in heavy traffic with about 1/4 tank of fuel on a hot day after driving start and stop through town for 10 miles. I made a rt turn onto a new street and as I tried to accellerate ther was nothing there. Probably couldn't get it up past 10 MPH, motor was rough, had over 3K RPM and absolutely no power. Also no codes. When I was finally able to get to the right and pull off a shut down, wait, and restart cleared it. NO CODES! |

In the begining, May of 2005 to August 2005 it had software issues and went into limp mode. Nothing since. |

Cow, I still think the term LAG rightly describes our lack of moo power. LAG - 1. To fail to keep up a pace; straggle. 2. To proceed or develop with comparative slowness. 3. To fail, weaken, or slacken 4. To cause to hang back or fall behind. 5. A condition of slowness or retardation. It felt like someone stole my moojo |

The situation I'm talking about is not air in fuel nor turbo lag. If it was air in fuel, and you shut the engine off because it's running so bad, I would expect it not to start and run fine unless you get out and prime/bleed it. It just doesn't make sense as anything other than a software reduction in power because of some perceived problem with the vehicle. I'll call it limp mode. |

Widowmaker - Sorry about your moojo and I hate the "LAG" too. I hate turbo lag too and I invariable don't expect it when it happens then kick myself when it does. CATCRD - I give up, call it what you wish but don't expect the doctor to fix your toothache if you continue to tell him your big toe hurts. The FUEL STARVATION LAG (how's that Widomaker? |
