Ok I need to replace the crappy stock Good Years on the ladies Jeep. This is a 2005 CRD Limited. Looks like we'll be going with the Firestone Destination AT due to the price. I would prefer to put Revos on since I've had great performance with them on my 2005 Grand Cherokee but she doesn't want to spend the coin. The Firestones are almost $50 per tire cheaper. Anyway I need the final word on these to tire sizes.

235/75/16 = 29.8 x 9.3

245/70/16 = 29.5 x 9.8

Which wil fit with no rubbing on stock limited rims. Occasional off-road use for camping and other outdoor activities. I would prefer to get the extra height of the 235 over the 245 but I won't be heart broken over .3 inches if they don't fit. I hope to order these tires today from http://www.roadwaywholesaletire.com/. Has anybody done business with them? They have awesome prices and reasonable shipping prices.

Sounds like you have your decision made already and just need backup. There are a couple of threads about the 235/75 size (albeit different tire models) in the tires forum. I know several folks really like them and I believe they'll fit fine with no rubbing with or without lift (unless your lady likes to rock-crawl...).

I have 235/75/16's on mine w/ no lift and they fit with minor rubbing on the plastic in the front wheel well. Had them on for 2500 miles or so now, no issues.

Little loud, but not too bad. I had Revo's on my 4Runner and would have preferred them as well, but at $175 per tire vs. $116 when I was buying, that just wasn't gonna happen.

I put the 245/70/16 Destinations on about 3 weeks ago and so far so good. I will get a slight rub entering a very steep driveway apron at an acute angle but it was very minor. The tires are quiet enough, seem to do well wet traction wise, great dry traction and a much better look than the stock POS SRA's. I paid $90.00 ea.
My $.02

Do you think the .3 reduction of diameter in the 245 (29.5") opposed to the 235 (29.8") would eliminate this rubbing? I'd be all right with a little rubbing but I'm sure the lady would get uptight that her new tires don't fit properly.

Hard to say... based on the comment above I think you'd still get some rubbing. Mine happens at full lock, so it is a combination of tire height and tire width.

My wife hasn't complained. But then again, she once took her Honda in for an oil change then drove it around for a week before she told me about the funny noise it was making. Checked and the stealer had left the oil cap off.

I should caveat my tire noise comments by saying I think the Destination AT's are somewhat noisy for an AT tire (noisier than my Revo's for sure). No where near as noisy as a MT tire.

Ok so only at full lock, correct? She won't notice that then. I've got 255/70/17 (31's) on my Grand and they do the same thing in the same situation and she's never said a word about it and she drives it often. How do the narrower 235's look on the Libby. Any pic.'s?

Yep ~29.84" (like a 30" tire)

Clears the pesky pinch weld with (like this pic) or without a lift...

The best part is that if you get a lift in the future, the tires are big enuff to still look like they belong there:

When I get home will snap photos of the Dest AT's I have, very quiet, rated 8 or 9 for snow
and quiet, love them, just can't remember the size I went with, but they don't rub at all.
Later this evening.

Well it looks like I'll be getting the Firestone Dest. AT installed today at a local shop. They were within $50 of the on-line deal and this way it's a one stop shop. Mount, balance, align, and I don't need to worry about hauling the tires around. So they stock both size tires I mentioned above. Any final thoughts on these sizes. I think I'm going to go with the 235/75/16 = 29.8 x 9.3. Looking at the Jeep this weekend it looks as though wider tires are more of a concern in regards to clearance opposed to taller.
