I just have to tell you that we really enjoy our CRD. We are on our 2nd trip from Tucson to Polson, MT and even with the high price of diesel fuel it's still the only way to go.

For example, we filled up in Tucson, filled up in Cedar City, UT, then again in Idaho Falls, ID and last in Polson, MT. That's one tank of fuel in each state we travel with and typically over 400 miles per tank. Crossing into MT yesterday we hit a snowstorm going over a pass and had high winds buffeting us most of the way from Idaho Falls into Polson and we still averaged over 25 mpg by EVIC driving at a steady 84.

Fuel costs raged from 3.32 to 3.69 but in comparision our GC HEMI would have done about 14-15 mpg in those winds and speed (if lucky). The GC takes 89 octane for high speed cruising and that gas would have been about 30 cents less. I didn't do the math but I figure we're way ahead of the curve.

The only downside is the torque of the little diesel caused some tire spin in the snowstorm we hit in southern MT. I had forgotten to put it into fulltime 4WD. Once I did that the problem was solved.

All in all, a great little car.

I have to drive all over the Rocky Mountain states (UT, ID, MT, WY & CO) and I do enjoy the range I get out of a tank of fuel. There's a whole lot of "middle of nowhere" along my route and I would hate to run out.
Especially when you drive half way through "middle of nowhere" to find the road closed and you have go back several hours to get to the next town. The range comes in handy for the surprise trips as well.

The CRD is super-cool in a far-out kinda way fer sure.

It is definitely a vehicle I plan on KEEPING for a long time...I just don't see anything down the road that is going to replace this little mule. A Diesel 4WD than can get 30mpg highway ... just don't see any car makers coming out with anything close here in the US.

I love hearing the happy CRD stories. We don't tell them often enough.

Got 32MPG last weekend going back and forth to DC. What a great truck. I'm in the same boat Darby, I don't plan to ever get rid of this little tractor. It makes me smile every day that I drive it.

I just got back from my cross country trip, Delaware to Washington and back. I towed a 3000 lbs trailer both ways and got 18.5 mpg going out and 19 mpg coming back. My Durango with 318 CID (5.2L) was 16 mpg highway not towing.

:( ... I've been driving the wife's Passat (1.8t) lately ... she drove the CRD for a few days ... she got in the car to drive as we were going out to eat and mentioned ... "man is this thing low" ... I'm not sure I'll get it back till the passat gets replaced ...

Wait till I save my pennies for a lift next year sometime ... (getting armored first)
