well for those who just wast to see what they really look like here it is First the filter with the first cut
The top has been removed
Next the inside removed. There is a Band keeps the filter from stretching, thats the "string" you see here.
here is a small cut away from the top which keeps the paper in place
Here is the inside of the core with the paper part removed
A view of the paper filter part stretched out
And last a view of the bottom of the filter can... (lot of rust down there!)

The CAT is a 2 micron. The operations manual for the engine specifies 5, I think, but the Mopar unit is something like 10 micron if memory serves me. |

Wonder how much water went through that filter? Hope you have a water seperator ahead of that filter. |

There is no water separator on a stock CRD, only a sensor I ran the stock filter for 22k and never saw the WIF light come on, I changed the filter When It started to buck and stall on a regular basis. There was very definitely water in the fuel when I drained it, but the WIF sensor never gave any indication. Haven't heard of anyone on this forum that reported that the WIF sensor actually worked. |

Cut open the oem filter and find the water screen at the bottom of the filter. It's there, trust me. The wif sensor works fine. You just have to have enough water in the bottom of the filter to set it off. |

there is no water sensor for the CAT fuel filter, thats the only down side... this filter was ran for 15,000 miles which was about a 40/40 of Diesel and B-100 and about 20% B50. Diesel is from the pump and B-100 is home made. I fill up on B-100 then since im out of town alot ive got to use fuel from the pump. thats why there is a 40/40 split and the 20 is when its mixed in the tank as B-50 And yes the CAT is a 2 micron. |

Looking at the pictures a bunch of water was run through that filter. The can is rusted almost all the way up. Water will cause much more damage a hell of a lot faster than 10 micron particles to the fuel system. The cat filter is indeed a better fuel filter. It just doesn't have water seperation abilities. |
