Just saying hi. I just picked up a '06 Limited this past weekend and am very happy with it so far. Got over 400 miles to the tank on my drive home with it. I did notice that it feels a little sluggish around 55-65 if you dont step on it and that it has a slight delay when initally hitting the gas but never owning a diesel before that may be normal. I need to put together a list of items I need to do right away to improve reliabilty. Well, hope to be on the forum more. Mark |

Good deal - but, stay away from the gas - Diesel engines run like crap on gas - we don' need no steenkin' gas around here - you'll want the green or yellow handle for the correct fuel................. And, welcome to the forum. |

And, welcome to the forum. Careful on the yellow handle.....many times it's not diesel but the ethonal/gas blend. |

That's good information, as some of the older stations, or stations with older pumps, like in small towns, still have the yellow handles on the Diesel pumps |

Are you sure it feels sluggish between 55 and 65, or does it just sound sluggish? First thing to learn about the Liberty CRD (and all diesels) is that power is generally highest at lower RPM's than similar gas engines. Our CRD's run most efficiently, with the most torque, right around 1800-2000 RPM. Higher RPM's cause the turbo charger to kick in at a greater rate, which gives more HP, but at a cost of much reduced efficiency. |

Hi, Mark, and welcome to the forum. The delay you speak of is turbo lag and on a modern diesel it can be somewhat induced by the computer. "jumping on it" typically results in a dirty burn and throttling boost reduces that to some degree. There are also several common maintenance issues not listed in the manual that can exacerbate it. As you're reading in the forums, look for ORM mod and MAP clean. Both of them helped reduce the lag to some degree for me. As for the speed thing, it's odd that you're having a lack of power in the 55-65 band. That's the range for peak torque and also peak efficiency in top gear on the CRD. If you're on particularly hilly terrain, you might want to just turn off the overdrive. That might give you better results. Dan |

Welcome, Mark. I hope you enjoy your CRD as much as I have since I got my 2005 two years ago. I don't know if this is the same thing you are describing as "sluggish at 55-65", but mine will sort of drop in and out of OD if you hover around 55-56. If you go ahead and get past that particular spot and then the OD kicks again at 60, it seems to run like a top. I have noticed this searching kind of behavior only at that speed. I have also heard of this on other Jeep boards, and I can't remember if this is just a quirk or if it has to do with any TCM flashes. Also, for me, the turbo lag seems to be worse when I have the A/C on. I really don't notice it otherwise. But, I drive a little on the conservative side. |

Hey thanks everyone. I think it has to do with the OD and maybe the TCM flash. I have the sticker for the F37 recall being performed under the hood. While crusing at 55 when I try to accelerate just a little or going up a hill you get the feel that it doesn't pick up much speed. Don't get me wrong if you press harder on the pedal it will move pretty well after it downshifts. I do tend to have a little of a lead foot. Maybe OD, torque converter lockup. Not really sure. I'm use to driving a gasser and a stick. Around town it is great. Really suprised at the pull it has. I think I'm expecting that sort of feel when on the highway that is getting me. After reading through some of the post I went ahead and popped the engine cover off to access the MAP sensor. It was pretty soothed up. A little blast of contact cleaner and some compressed air and it looked good as new. Hopefully that will help some. I was suprised to see it so caked up. The CRD only has 16k miles. |

Your first OD will hit around 53mph and the final OD will hit about 10 mph later...the rpms drop but you will still pick up speed. For the best mileage make sure you have hit these ODs and try to keep the rpm under 1800. |
