Just saw this... another non-American clean diesel coming to market. Likely a variation of the clean diesel slated for the Accord. http://www.carbuyersnotebook.com/archiv ... a.htm#more Acura will introduce clean diesel engine in 2009 Honda_iDTEC.jpgDETROIT -- Acura will introduce the new i-DTEC clean diesel engine to the North American market in 2009. The i-DTEC engine reduces noxious exhaust emissions while boosting power and fuel efficiency. A combination of optimized combustion chamber design and reduced injection time results in a clean, quiet engine that delivers excellent performance for an enjoyable driving experience. In addition, the i-DTEC engine meets the ultra-stringent U.S. EPA Tier II Bin 5 emission standards without the on-board storage of urea. The i-DTEC clean diesel engine is on display exclusively in the Acura booth at the North American International Auto Show and will be utilized in an Acura vehicle to be named at a later date. |

Another overpriced diesel. How about a diesel Focus or mini-van???? I also worry about the price of diesel fuel in the future. |

The Accord should be a bit more affordable. I also read today that Ford is making it official... small diesel option coming in the new F150, circa 2010. |

Keep your eyes open, around the 2010-2011 model years you will see a vast number of diesel platforms enter (or re-enter as far as current KJ owners are interested |

Also, if you check the Allpar website and read the article on the redesigned '09 Ram pickup, they say it's official that for 2010 the 1500 will be getting the new Cummins V8 diesel. Now if they'd just drop the V6 version into the Dakota as well... Side note - in the same article, they mention that the standard tranny behind the V8 gas engines will be the 545RFE, and that for '09 it will get manual gear selection similar to the 68RE. These guys just keep giving me wild ideas. |

Just hope it turns out to be a more reliable engine than the 6.0hNo. |

Why is every new diesel a v block?? I'm talking pick-up engines here. I hate v block diesels. IMHO there hasn't been a decent one made. Maybe the 6.9 mechanical. The I-6 is such a better set up.Less moving parts, sealing surfaces with better balance too. More engine room and easier to work on. |

2009 will be the year of the diesel return to the US. just wait and see what the market will hold for options. The US is the only market without diesels in EVERY line. Here in Germany 95% of every automoblile has a diesel option. |

...and very heavy. The answer to your question is weight. I6 engines are often heavier than V8 engines. - Chris |

The I6 engine also suffers a bit from the length in a thermal way when heating the cold engine up. Just the difference in temperature between the ends of the head can cause it to skew a bit. Over time this can create cracks in the head. Most likely someone else has a better explanation, this is what I remember being told by a guy who knew a bit about engines. However I love the sound of an I6 engine. Had it in my Patrol, and it was really nice, well balanced and smooth running. |

Totally agreed! I have an I6 in my aging 95 BMW M3 and it sounds absolutely glorious at 7000rpm. - Chris |

Check out the Feb issue of Diesel Power. In their SEMA coverage, they show a 1 ton Tundra concept from Toyota. An 8.0 L inline six Hino, 300 HP/600 ftlbs. |
